OP-Com for borrowage

Slightly cheeky request, but does anyone have an Op-Com (knock-off tech2 from what I understand) that they would be prepared to post to me (or if close enough that I could collect) for me to try and clear the door lock code that I think is stored in my 2004 Saab 9-3?

I replaced the lock mechanism recently and while this has restored the actual function of the car locking on all 4 doors, the 'lock system failure' message still pops up every time I start the car. I wonder whether the old unit has logged a fault code which needs clearing before the message will go away. Or, it could be that the secondhand lock mechanism is also on its way out and the error is legit - however I think that I could be able to rule this out with a fault code scan/clear/scan

I will happily pay for postage each way if anyone can assist - I'd rather not throw parts at it until I know which unit is upsetting the computer, so thought I'd ask here.

If not, I will buy one off ebay but understand the cd of software that comes with it is almost always riddled with viruses and malware so if anyone has a sanitised version of the software they'd be prepared to share then I'd be very interested in this too,

Anyway, if anyone can help please shout - or tell me i'm a chancer and to FRO :)

I have the hardware, and the weird little CD. I never got it to work but i can have a look for it if you fancy.

Nice one! Does anyone know whether the reader is generic and its the software that is the specialist bit, or if both parts are specialised. I have an OBD2 to USB adaptor which I got with knock-off VAG-COM lite yonks ago so if this would work then I will be over the moon.

If the reader is specialised then I'd love to be able to borrow one

Are you able to rip the CD and share it with me at all? I understand it needs to be put on a Windows 7 or older PC which I can arrange.

I have a copy.  Doesn't seem to work on my Windows 8 laptop (yawn).  That pisses me off.  I could copy it for you I suppose.  Never had any reason to think it has any viruses.  Does seem to need a special interface, which I have.  Where are you?

I've got tech 2 with Saab cards but don't really fancy posting it tbh . If you are near cornwall you are welcome to use it foc but I suspect you are hundreds of miles away

Stanky> I think I saved the files off the CD because the actual CD was being a pain in the arse. I need to find my laptop charger first but when i do I'm more than happy to rip a copy off for you and pop it in the post. Good luck trying to get it to work, I couldn't get my head around it!!

Twosmoke - where abouts in Cornwall are you? I'm in Hampshire so not ridiculously far away and my wife is going to be going to be local to you over the next couple of weeks, though I won't be there - if you can PM me then that might be a go-er.

If its not feasible then I'd be keen to have a crack at Op-Com using a spare laptop running 7 pro.

Thanks for the kind offers guys, really appreciate it.

You should be able to run a virtual xp mode on your laptop.

Google and geeks are your friend here. (I know nothing except for following instructions)

Get Oracle Virtual Box (free): http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/5.0.16/VirtualBox-5.0.16-105871-Win.exe

Get legit Windows XP image: https://az412801.vo.msecnd.net/vhd/VMBuild_20141027/VirtualBox/IE6/Windows/IE6.XP.For.Windows.VirtualBox.zip

(from https://dev.windows.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/vms/windows/ if the link goes dead)

That Win XP image is released by Microsoft free, for the poor suckers who have to make websites still work on IE6. It only works for a set period (3 months iirc), but as its already has Windows pre-installed, its easy enough to delete it and download a new copy when it has expired.

Thanks muchly to Lisbon_Road of this parish for lend of his Op-Com earlier, confirmed suspicions that the replaced unit is the problematic one and that the other 3 actuators are (currently) fault-free.

Question asked elsewhere as to whether the unit needs coding to the car - conflicting advice on the internet as to whether the unit is dumb or needs coding in - FFS.

Getting the op-com to work was a right faff but perseverance won out in the end. Also confirmed that Windows XP running on a VM really is the OS choice of life's winners.
