NO i had it listed just to test the water,, and had good replies its off now, until the carpet gets fitted, then new pictures, of bespoke carpet,door seal fixed. head. lining cleaned,  it will transform the look of the car.  then relist. at a little more to cover the price of the carpet from Cloverfield,  any one how i add a picture to this reply?

 Finished the Toledo  new centre exhaust fitted,  Cloverfield carpet set fitted,paint matched. not doing all that again,,had a convertible, before the Toledo, want one back let me know if any one wants a change.

Coverdale for the carpet. Cloverfield was the sci-fi movie with the very nasty big dinosaur looking monster in it that ended in Manhattan getting nuked.

 

What was the paint colour just out of interest?

Hi guys its Cloverdale the carpets, still dont know the colour, had a it scanned at a paint shop, then they mixed some up,   they thought the colour was Ford Olympic Blue, with a tint,

Car is looking good, but I think replacing those lovely original peaked reflective plates with those monstrosities was an own goal.

The plates are 847 kwazillion percent wrong for the car.  What a pity!

The new plates are legal but the original ones were more... Er... Original! They looks nicer too in my opinion than the black and silver ones.

If you bought a car in 1972, you could have asked for it to have black plates. Would you have done so?  Unlikely, unless you were an old dude at the time.   For an L reg car that was made in 1973, you would have had to have white and yellow plates.  The DoT, knowing no history, has recently allowed cars that are exempt from VED to have black plates, even though they could never have had black plates when new.  My 1975 Dolomite could legally have black plates.  It will never get them while I own it.

I'm disappointed I didn't know John when he owned this car and so never got to meet it, as I love my old Triumphs.  Mainly the bigger ones though, I'm a 2000/2.5 nut and will own one some day.  I looked at this and immediately thought it was French Blue, but reading back through the thread it doesn't seem definite.  

 

Here's a favourite of mine, a 1972 2000 mk2 in my favourite Triumph colour, Valencia Blue, which I see around the Bridlington area.  It's severely distressed looking and the sea air can't be helping, but it's been on the go for years.  I love how these are ageless, you get the odd concours one but there are lots simply running around looking like old cars just as they were in the 80s.

Oddly, the DVLA MoT site claims that this car was first used in July 1971, but that seems curious, as it has an L registration, and those were issued  from 1/8/72 to 31/7/73.  

 

IIRC, the rules used to be that if the car was built before 1/1/73 it could have black plates (even if it was registered on or after 1/1/73).  My memory on that may be incorrect.  Nowadays you can have black plates if the car qualifies as historic (ie VED exempt).   This means that in a few years cars from 1980 will be allowed to have black plates.  This is very unhistorical.  Of course none of this matters, really, but there you are.

It only claims what the MOT tester puts down as an approximation. This car was not made in 1971:

It doesn't feature anymore, but the box used to always say Approx date of blah blah blah. It's only relevant arguing the toss if a testable item comes into date or not.

Nice Toledo, very smart.

 

I like the colour, a bit more bite than the original 'wishy washy blue' but then a photo over t'internet can do al sorts for 50 shades.

 

I also like the silver and black plates 'puts tin hat on' even if it might not have rolled of the forecourt with them.
