sierraman Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Can't beat me on the grade! CANT BEAT ME ON THE GRADE!!!!! Uh uh Those radiator hoses!(gasps) Maybe he's got some some souped up diesel my cars just not that powerful! Do you think I should call Steve Henderson up and challenge him to a fist fight or something? ** these lines do also feature in Duel as opposed to what I used to say when I had a Rover 214SLI... Guest Breadvan72 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 ...and will end every journey pushing my car into a quarry. This sounds like every Autoshite drive ever. Parky, garethj, tooSavvy and 5 others 8
overrun Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Congrats on the car, it's a cool looking old thing. As for the film, I must be the only one that thinks it is SHIT!
DaveAspley Posted February 25, 2016 Author Posted February 25, 2016 I've ordered some proper pressed alloy USA-style plates to replace those massive square ones, just for *erm* shows officer... eddyramrod and chaseracer 2
MrDuke Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Didn't they change the law a few years back to allow imported US models to wear proper US-style plates on the road? I definitely remember reading about it, unless they changed it back again. I think you had to be able to prove exactly when the car was imported, though. NorfolkNWeigh 1
Bren Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 I know that the six pot is a good little motor, and I may upset a few on here by saying this but I think it would make a really good sleeper - a warmish small block would see it fly!
bub2006 Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Lovely motor Dave, must come and see this in the metal if ok with you DaveAspley 1

MrDuke Posted February 25, 2016 Posted February 25, 2016 Ah OK, that makes more sense. Would still be an improvement over the UK-sized ones though.
simmo Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 I've had two Valiants a V8 for £35 in the below photo and a VIP straight six. I know the car is on the wrong way round but real men accelerate out of a weave. eddyramrod, Squire_Dawson, Barry Cade and 13 others 16
danthecapriman Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 And a mk1 Granada tow car! Both very nice.

I know the car is on the wrong way round but real men accelerate out of a weave. Valiant.jpgThat picture stirred a memory - my mates dad had one around 1979 on a J plate. That had a vinyl roof as well. I remember part of the fascia was missing, you could see a rubber membrane moving in time with the wipers.
tooSavvy Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 .... lets see moar fotozz.... TS Tigeseal/Duct tape dash optional...

DaveAspley Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Powah! Asimo, danthecapriman, Skizzer and 1 other 4
Asimo Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 ^^^ Everything you need and nothing more and all of it in reach.
DaveAspley Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Let the tinkering commence! Air filter blocked solid, valve cover leaking due to none of the bolts being done up at all. New gasket and all the low mileage mayonnaise cleaned out. Started making a list of things to sort , it's double the size now! All little things though. danthecapriman, mouseflakes, Skizzer and 1 other 4
danthecapriman Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 On the pic of the engine bay, is the rad top hose the right one? It looks like it's bent and collapsed flat slightly on it's angle where it goes into the engine? Might be just the pic though. Looks like a great car though. You driven it much?
darkfour Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 If you're going to open up the transmission you'll need a new gasket. I'm assuming you have the 904 transmission as opposed to a 727 and I highly recommend getting your hands on this part Mopar # 4295875AC. It's a rigid plastic gasket with rubber lines to seal and is reusable. They seal really well and much, much better than the floppy rubber or cork ones. That part number also fits Jeep Cherokees, Grand Cherokees and Wranglers so you "should" be able to get one in the UK. eddyramrod 1
DaveAspley Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Yes the hoses have gone really hard and brittle, need to find some asap. Got the trans gasket too, floppy rubber type was the only one in stock sadly.
DaveAspley Posted February 27, 2016 Author Posted February 27, 2016 Took it out on a job earlier. Citroen Picasso with non functioning heater in Burbage. It purred down the A5 brilliantly. Probably done about 30 miles so far. Bren, eddyramrod, myglaren and 2 others 5
tooSavvy Posted February 27, 2016 Posted February 27, 2016 I like that 'banana' inlet manifold - not VX scaffold pipe then.... Similar to 28/36 IMP special inlet. This is SO kool TS DaveAspley 1
DaveAspley Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 Managed to get a whole four hours on it today , time to rip off the band aid! Rotten front carpet out, lots of rust and a hole. Also a shedload of ofc speaker wire that goes to nowhere, random relays hanging down etc. Explains why the electrics are temperamental. Will probably pull the loom and start fresh, not many wires. Attention then turned to the inner wings. I knew there was plenty of grot here hiding under a couple of fibre glass patches. A swift whack with a hammer and the full extent became obvious. Cue the wife popping in to see how its going just as I've boshed a massive hole in the most expensive car I've ever owned ! Ended up cutting a fair bit out with the grinder, have pigeon'ed a plate over with the awful gasless mig of despair, no pics as its so poor I dare not show anyone! It's strong and stops the water getting though. Didn't touch the other side as I was a bit arsey at this point. Fogged the bay in satin black to tidy it up a bit and called it a day. cort16, mouseflakes, The Moog and 3 others 6
tooSavvy Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 ..... battleship bum plating is fine M8.... You setting up in competition to a certain 'Vulgar' prinnie bodg.. err, fettler? TS
DaveAspley Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 Ha honestly it's a bloody awful repair but with the screen wash bottle on top it'll do for now. The plan is to get it tidy and reliable so we can enjoy summer with it then providing work stays steady I'll look to book it in some where (Retro power are 5 miles away) and get it all done properly. Needs inner wing to bulkhead both sides , bottom of spare wheel well and drivers floor 4" hole.
Rusty Pelican Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Gasless is OK-ish but the only wire ive found thats good is made by Sip - everything else is shit
