Canada Shite

Just had a little visa renewal trip to Vancouver, B.C.   A reasonable amount of chod around, lots of Volvos and Subarus rocking winter or even studded tyres.   Never seen them before in the wild, make a hell of a noise.

First up was this honey, parked just outside the hotel.   The car that saved Chrysler apparently.

Literally just up the street was this relative in a delightful brown.

Clean El Camino that I would do rude things to if parked in a secluded place.

RHD Mitsubishi thing suitably jacked up for Canadian winters.   Notable in North America because the US doesn't allow RHD unless 25 years old (although maybe this I getting close?).   Anyway, I loved it especially the lifestyle slogans on the side.

More import madness - what is this?

Back to American mediocrity.

And another one.   Styling brought to you by Nyquil.

More like it.   Makes me want to grow a mullet like Kevin Costner in 'Dances with Wolves'

More Pontiac excitement.

Have another pic of this beast.   Am I right in thinking that this is related to GM's J platform, Mk 2 Cavalier etc?

Just after this I saw a diesel one of these go past, which must be the holy grail of Septic shite spotting.   Too slow with the camera but like at the end of Mad Max, it lives now in my memory.

Some Toyotas doing their thing.

Canadians like BMWs and sometimes get their own slightly different models.   Think this is a standard NA spec but had a sweet red leather interior.   Obviously would have to kill the wheels with fire first.

Up the road in Squamish a slightly barried Corrado, not sold in the US I think.   I wanted to save this from the abuse it had suffered.

Finally, my favourite, a Roadmaster wagon.

Pontiac Acadian is GM T car for Canadian market, basically a Chevrolet Chevette.  RWD just as our Chevette but with slightly larger engine (1.4 I think).   Can't be many of 'em left - my Canadian bro in law was pretty disparaging of them but he was a self-confessed GM hater.

Pontiac.

...so that's where all the K-cars ended up...eh?

You saw a lot more shite than I did in my 3 weeks in Canada a few months back. Started off in Vancouver but only stayed a night and felt that was about enough time, tbh. However, I might've stayed a while longer if I'd had so much success! I'd expected to see more full size American passenger cars of older age but perhaps they weren't such big sellers back in the day in Canada? Certainly they aren't now; if it wasn't a futuristic looking Ford people mover or a Chrysler Voyager, it was a pick up truck or a European/Asian compact. Mostly pick ups, though.

Plus the rust on a lot of cars made UK stuff look like Pebble Beach contenders.....

Full size American cars are pretty much dead everywhere now sadly, it's all trucks and crossovers.   Vancouver has quite a few 'alternative' types who will cycle to work and have an old car as a back up.

Haven't seen a K car in ages so was a treat to see two in the same block.

I think imports of non-type approved cars to the US are restricted unless they're over 25 years old, that's why so many Defenders and Minis were ringed as early-mid 80s models recently.

The age limit in Canada is 15 years old
