Can we help Bub?

how many folk would want a fiesta with no test though?

no one, but that's not the point! We would be getting tickets to help you out and praying for once our number didn't come up! At worst you could fleabay it, with a fail sheet people know it's not going to be expensive to fix.

hmm, shortish mot and sold as spares or repairs doesn't sound too inviting. There must be autos closer to Bub at sensible money?

Lots of traders sell cheap stock such as that as spares/repairs - discharges liability (allegedly) if it fails as an unknown quantity/old car

It looks about right for what it is.  A 100,000 miles Saga is about as unappealing as it gets to the general public.  But they're a light to drive easy to live with little car and rarely seem to have mechanical catastrophes.  It's cheap for Bub to insure, they're pretty good on fuel because of the low weight and well powered with the 1.5 engine.  As a light and easy to use runabout to get Bub mobile for minimum outlay it's quite a sensible choice.

MoT history doesn't look terrible on it either, which is a good thing.

could well be that, but needs checking over as could also have shat it's box and Bub has been there with his focus auto not long back.

Evening all, apologies for not posting earlier - I've just sat down after getting home and sorting a few things out.

So, the situation on the Fester is not too bad, considering its age and that its an S reg Fiesta 1.3. I fitted the new spring on RHF and noticed that the lower arm rear bush is peeling from the inner crush tube and the outer bush ring. It could have gone either way but the tester decided an advisory was all that was needed. For anyone to use it as a daily though I would recommend a new lower arm (or pair of arms to be doing the job properly).

The exhaust was reinstated, but the front pipe flange is holed at the point where it meets the intermediate pipe. I've bodged it with sealant for now, but it does need a new downpipe, or flange section welding in (so as not to have to buy a catalyst). The remainder of the underside is solid, surface rust for sure but no structural issues pending.

The tester found the LH rear spring to be broken at the very top, now a fail apparently rather than pass and advise. The rear brakes were low on force so a strip revealed that a pair of wheel cylinders are required and a brake pipe is required for the tester to be satisfied.

I can get the parts priced up quite keenly and make a brake pipe. Probably 40 to 50 quid all in, however the brake pipe is the one that goes from front to rear and the fuel tank needs to come down to do the job properly. I'm not a big fan of putting joins into a pipe but this may be the best way, on this occasion.

Has anyone got a hand-held flanging tool to save removing tank etc?

I'm willing to organise the necessary parts to get the Fester MOT'd and put a bit more time in to get it finished, but do need some help with getting the brake pipe done.

I know bub is unlikely to use the Fiesta, for the reasons stated, however if we can get it up and running with an MOT he has something to bargain with, certainly until the insurers come good. If anyone is willing to help buying parts just let me know. At least we could get bub mobile, either in a Proton or the Fiesta and if the Proton is preferred he has an MOT'd Fiesta to Roffle, we all love a Roffle!

Count me in for a tenner, did the battery fit ok?

I've just started a Bub roffle on a separate thread. I put the tickets at £7 each, but can be lowered or raised by popular demand.

Nowhere near as cheap as a Proton, or as economical to run ... says the man running  a 3dr shooting break version as a daily atm ;)

Doesn't classic insurance usually ask you to have something else as a first car?

Clio nice but maybe too small? Compared to fiesta? Not a fan of golfs,Subaru looks very nice and link for bluebird is same as clio!

Now the Fester is being raffled are we any closer to making the Proton appear at bub' place?

I've left a message with the seller to try and find out exactly what might be wrong with it to be 'spares or repairs'
