egg Posted October 15, 2018 Author Posted October 15, 2018 it's all good fun, at least you're on the right* side of the river Medway now GM. GrumpiusMaximus 1
GrumpiusMaximus Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 The right side of the river is not Essex as far as I'm concerned! dozeydustman 1
af1 Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 Don't recall many Octavia VRS being joyridden in Gravesend. The vrs was the chase car!!!
egg Posted October 16, 2018 Author Posted October 16, 2018 Pushed out of the garage (front brakes were locked on, but she moved), it got the sun* on its back for the first time since last December The battery off af1's Saxo was good enough to get her to run (first turn of the key) Then a bit of chat was had, and this Y2K picture was taken... Date set for next week for af1 (with my dubious help!) to have a go at cambelt and pump! Top bloke for helping out. Coprolalia, Rave, Yoss and 13 others 16
mrbenn Posted October 16, 2018 Posted October 16, 2018 It's times like this when it's a shame you can only like something once. Top man, af1! egg and Kringle 2
egg Posted October 17, 2018 Author Posted October 17, 2018 Friends, you may have noticed I have raised some cash by roffling a bass guitar on the open forum. I can reveal why! Here is an OEM, original, unpainted, black top rear bumper!! A dealer was selling off stock. It appears to have arrived in one piece. This may be a spend to save, as now, painting this bumper will be much cheaper,as they don't have to do two colours. This is for the base of course... Conrad D. Conelrad, Burnside, Datsuncog and 8 others 11
sierraman Posted October 17, 2018 Posted October 17, 2018 In that colour you might, in the right circumstances, do a passable job with an aerosol. I’d doubt very much it would be much cheaper to paint, you’ve still got to mix the paint and the difference in labour is fractional. At a guess £80-100, that’s the sort of figures I’ve been quoted in past for similar jobs.
egg Posted October 18, 2018 Author Posted October 18, 2018 In theory, this should help with the cambelt job GrumpiusMaximus, mrbenn and RobT 3
mrbenn Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 I was quoted £90 (plus the dreaded) to paint a front bumper locally. Unfortunately, by the time I’d wasted £40 on paint and lacquer having a go myself, the quote went up by £40 as there was extra work putting on a barrier coat. That was a metallic btw. Suspect I could have waited and wet sanded it for a better diy finish but needed it done sooner rather than later.
sierraman Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Wouldn’t tackle anything metallic, but a flat blue should go on no problem providing you aren’t blending it or spraying it somewhere damp.
mrbenn Posted October 18, 2018 Posted October 18, 2018 Agreed, solid paints the way to go. Assuming a decent quality aerosol, of course!
egg Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 Let's talk a bit more about launch cars (let's not, says everyone else) This GLX diesel (yes, a different grille for the uninitiated) was built in September 93, so obviously wasn't included in the original batch of March '93 cars for press work. DVLA says tax expired in August 2004 - so only an 11 year life, for a car that no doubt went on to be a workhorse. RobT, GrumpiusMaximus, Dick Cheeseburger and 1 other 4
egg Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 This GLX doesn't even have an FMC plate, and was reviewed in January '93, so must be one of the mythical* 92 built cars? Unfortunately, we will never know as the DVLA and Etis have wrenched this car from their memory. That crooked number plate would be photo shopped today. RobT, GrumpiusMaximus and oldcars 3
Sir Snipes Posted October 20, 2018 Posted October 20, 2018 I prefer the diesel grille. MorrisItalSLX, michael t and egg 3
egg Posted October 20, 2018 Author Posted October 20, 2018 K34 FMC was photoshopped on to this image, as it actually belongs to a green Escort according to both Etis and DVLA. The Escort died in 2008. GrumpiusMaximus and oldcars 2
egg Posted October 24, 2018 Author Posted October 24, 2018 While I was out getting tyres for the Mazda, thought it a good idea to put some air in the flat GLX tyre... Angrydicky, RobT, stuboy and 1 other 4
egg Posted November 11, 2018 Author Posted November 11, 2018 Mr Nibblet of this parish has supplied me with a large and heavy blue genuine Ford warning triangle. Thanks to him michael t, Burnside, Joloke and 7 others 10
GrumpiusMaximus Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 I think all cars should have a blue interior. Lacquer Peel 1
Yoss Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 Apart from ones with red interiors. But I know what you mean, there should be more colour in the world. GrumpiusMaximus 1
GrumpiusMaximus Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 The blue interior on that Mondeo really is something to behold.
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 £100 to paint a bumper in 2 pack and baked - it's not worth pissing around with cans....? Weather is too cold now unless you have a heated garage. egg 1
sierraman Posted November 11, 2018 Posted November 11, 2018 No it’s not. I’ve given up with rattle cans, unless it’s a nice flat colour like white or something it always looks worse than a few scabs. Only thing I’ll paint now is stone chip onto areas where the original stuff has worn off. The Reverend Bluejeans 1
egg Posted November 20, 2018 Author Posted November 20, 2018 From Flickr and has MOT! michael t, RobT, Lacquer Peel and 1 other 4
sierraman Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 It just looks a fucker though with those shit stripes all over it. He ought to have spent the money on sorting out it pissing oil out everywhere instead of those absolutely ridiculous graphics on the side. Mk1 Speed... Wow. Lacquer Peel 1
jumpingjehovahs Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Spotted this today in a very wet Chertsey and thought of egg. Looked in very good condition, but was very wet. Just noticed it’s parked in front of it’s much fatter, younger brother. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk egg 1

GrumpiusMaximus Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Saw a MK1 estate on Wednesday. I think... egg 1
jumpingjehovahs Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Cheers. Soon be 3 years on this thread, and I appreciate people coming on here to post Mk1 Mondeo content!I think it’s a great thread! Tinged with nostalgia too, when I was a kid my uncle had a burgundy 1.8LX L???VAE (I think) replaced with a Mk2 1.8 Verona in silver. The Mk1 was, I always thought, a bit of a looker. sierraman Posted December 7, 2018 Posted December 7, 2018 Sorting put the piss wet through boot in mine at the moment. Determined it’s come from the wiper grommet. Already sealed back lights up, that’s a given, they all piss water in through there. Still selling quite a few bits of the saloon I broke, people will pay a fair bit now for the genuine Ford uncracked thermostat housings
