Trying to remember from Pa's old T5: one of the first things I got spanner happy on...thinking...

 

For one, they'll run til they drop. They can hide a multitude of sins. Tough as fuck though.

 

Think you're supposed to lift the dipstick with the engine running: if it smokes, the emissions system needs attention, iirc.

Open an account with your local tyre emporium. Front wishbone bushes. ABS lights on. exhausts are costly,breather boxes blocking causing oil leaks- otherwise BRILLIANT.

One of the front doors 'popping' when you open it is a broken spot weld where the door stop catch attaches to the body. Slightly awkward to sort but it only needs a couple of self tappers to fix.

Front wheel bearings are a common consumable on these.

The bootlid interior trim is prone to bursting when the tailgate struts (or springs?) get weak.

Mileometer gears wear out so mileage might not be reliable.

I enjoyed my brief time with a T5 auto,used it to really piss off the local chavs.
