Did an oil change the other week-used Halfords Classic oil-£20 for 5 litres.

Nice and thick and green!

Car zooming along nicely.

Will have to upgrade the headlights-candles are better!

Swapping the Royale over with the Senator for weekend duties. Senator used most weekdays-Royale weekends.

Just a quick update.

Forgot that the Senators MOT was up until 2 days before. Royale being used 7 days a week for the last month. Comfortable, fast and gets quite a few glances. Fuel pump -new last year-is a little noisy so may replace. Apart from that all good-windows all work and so does the sunroof.

Lovely blasting around with my 80's CD on.

Spoke too soon!

Replaced the fuel pump on my Royale (3.0i) about a year ago after the previous one that had also been on a year gave up the ghost. Now having to replace the pump for the third time as the one now on it is noisy and the car has cut out a few times. Did this on a roundabout today - had to push it onto the side and then it re-started. So as it's noisy I'm suspecting the pump.

I'm now thinking that there must be rust/muck in the tank. I'm buying a couple of filters and am going to plumb one in before the pump as the current design which is after the pump seems a little daft.

Is it a mechanical or electrical pump on these? Also something worth checking is the petrol filler cap to see if its the right one; some need to be vented. Many years ago, I suffered a sucked in steel petrol tank when foolish me put a locking cap on it, unvented, which I had no idea it needed to be. Didn't have any running trouble though and was amazed at the vacuum power of a fuel pump.

Thanks Squire,

It's a fuel injection pump. Problem is the filter is after the pump - so any muck from the tank ends up in the pump. Will get a pre pump filter- but the seller I have found has the ones with 12mm connectors out of stock.

My 15 year old son was not happy pushing it onto the pavement at a busy roundabout!

Had a look this morning-initially wouldn't start-but could hear the pump. Then started but after a minute cut out again-would not restart-but again could hear the pump. Will check for spark when my son finally gets out of bed. Steve

Update.

Plenty of spark and fuel to injectors but not firing. Suspected injectors not firing-so ECU or crank sensor. Had a spare ECU and swapped over and it started. Will try and get a crank sensor for peace of mind.

Had a prod underneath as MOT in a month-found a hole. Will have to practise my MIG welding i think.

For the age of the car I agree!

Bought a MIG welder a year ago-will now have a little play before I give it a whirl. Will have my brother next to me as he used to make SKIPs.

For a VX approaching 40 years of maturity, that’s pretty damn solid. My old 1990 Cav GSi was really snotty on the rear legs, and my 92 wasn’t much better. When you’ve got it sound again, get those legs rammed with cavity wax!

Posted

Fronts and other side are fine-rear sill needs a tiny patch on drivers side-but overall not too bad. Will pratice my welding on a bit of scrap this afternoon. Got some 2mm and 3mm steel on the way.

Only just found this thread, and very glad I did. Saw this for sale a couple of years back and the want for it was very high.

No space, money or time, just lots of want. Very glad to see it's progress!

Bought it in oct/nov 2015. Use it in rotation with the Senator-so quite a bit. Drivers door is dented-but it came with a good spare one. I just do enough to keep it running sweetly and MOT'd. If it was immaculate-I wouldn't use it as much and would worry about parking it in certain places. As I've said previously-old cars are for using! The pleasure I get out of driving these brightens up the day. You see the odd Ferrari or Aston about-but when was the last time people saw a Senator or Royale on the road?

A saloon sold for £495 on ebay the other day. On a V plate - silver with red velour.

It needed recomissioning but looked a good buy.

Mine was fucked at 10 years old - they know how to rot.

That looks fantastic...... I do love a good velour - the SD1's had some epic interiors with it too.

Hole shouldn't prove too much of a pain I hope... is it multi-layered or fuck off big heavy plated? Seems a simple enough shape to sort out.

I had 1 a few years back,AMM222T

A 2.8 carb car.Same colour with that blue velour that only Vauxhall could manage

Picked it up from a guy in Telford who said it only a little work to get sorted

It hid the rot in the sills very, very well

Imagine a Royale Coupe with the 24v engine in it :D

Funny you should say that-the bloke I bought my Royale off had a Royale Coupe in which he had fitted a Carlton GSi 24valave engine. He offered it to me (over 2.5 years ago) for £3000 which I didn't have. He put it up for sale a couple of months ago for £2500.

It's now appeared on facebook-heres the link.

Oh God, I wish I hadn’t seen that. Thank goodness I don’t do Facebook.

I can get the contact details if you want Skizz :)

Saying that- I think the new owners may want more than £2500- they have gone quiet since posting on the Senator/Monza/Royale group page.

Nightmare.

I need fewer cars, not more. But that looks a real honey.

I’ve always liked these (especially in Vauxhall Royale flavour) and gold with gold velour is ultimate Skizzer spec. Bet it shifts with the GSI motor too.
