The HDI is simple by current standards. They last longer than the XUD, are more powerful and use less fuel. The 8 valve one can even survive a cambelt failure.  They also blow head gaskets less often than the XUD.

I have owned both and I prefer the HDI.

I agree . A 2.0 hdi 90 hp with Bosch injection is a bloody good modernish motor

Hmmm, Im still a major XUD fan, I would rather have the rough and ready XUD tractor engine over the more refined and relaible HDI. The HDI isn't as tuneable to the common man, it takes much more money and effort and electrical knowhow to make one significantly quicker.

Typical Dutch, trying to perfect and modernise an old motor, to make it more reliable and efficient, and at the same time loosing some of its original soal.

Nice motor in the end though!

****cough****

ECU flash (£80)

Decat (free if you are handy with a welder)

Remove EGR (free)

From stock 90 to 120ish BHP.

It did however lunch its gearbox.

What's the plan with the blue 205 then now that the 106 is about?

Posted

Thought so, just wasn't sure whether it would be the blue or white 205 donating necessities...

He's considering his options on the ex-Foxake 205... he didn't quite get on with it (up to the point it popped its blower), so will likely move it on as a going concern, possibly re-turbo'd. It'll certainly be easier to sell if he spends half a day on it first.

PS, I've just seen this in another thread three days back:

90 to 120bhp is nothing, I can do that with a spanner and a screwdriver in 30mins on a Bosch XUD!

Fix it up and move it on. New (bigger) turbo fitted, a hybrid I built from one half of a Garett from an 850 TDI and one half of a KKK from a 306 XUD.... Should be fun!

Im already in negotiations with an Autoshite member about its future.

Not veg friendly.

Only the lift pump in the fuel tank isnt veg friendly the rest of the set up will cope with veg.

Or C8 runs on 50/50 without any problems at all in the warmer weather.

That's interesting to know, can you replace the tank lift pump with something stronger?

50/50 veg/diesel is far too much fossil fuel for me.

Is the blue 205 unpleasant to drive? It looks quite low.

It is definitely too low on the front. I dont think the rear was ever Lowered to match.

It came to me like it and I always intended to raise it back up to nearer standard but never got round to it.

It is a bit* harsh.

The head gasket was going on my old C5 HDi but the car was still usable so I did the last few thousand miles on waste oil and it was fine

Ironically a snapped CV joint killed it in the end

Much prefer XUD though, if an HDi breaks down what do you do? Can usually fix an XUD at the roadside as not much to go wrong

Surely it would be a doddle to swap the killed 205's front struts straight on?  It had a sensible ride height for Dales roads.

Keeping 106 standard or having a mega mod binge with it?

I read that long 106xud thread, the 1.9 in there looks an utter ball-ache.

Is turboing the little 1.5 a thing?

Id be interested in mega boost 205 too
