bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Help!! Gearbox thrown its toys out the pram and I'm stranded. Anyone local willing to give me a tow to civilization please? I can provide a small gesture to fuel and I have a steel towing bar in the boot. Thanks kindly on advance. Ps I've run out of fags too. And no fecking fag papers
richardmorris Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Can't help sorry- 162miles away according to Apple maps.
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Have the three lollipop links between gearchange and box fallen off? that's the usual situation with these. garethj 1
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Nope, all linkages seem intact, manual manipulation yields no dice too
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Oh dear. Sorry, I can't help further because 151 miles away. Good luck though.
ruffgeezer Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Linkage pics? They should fit together like this; If they are worn you'll not get gears properly.
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Everything looks intact. The gearlever won't pull back either,as if its jammed.
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 One of the links has fallen off. There are three - one horizontal onto the top lever and two by the bulkhead. Top bulkhead one goes to lever on box and bottom one goes to a lug on the gearbox case under the lever. Losing one will make the gearstick jam.
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Two plastic lower ones and one steel on top? They all there mate.
Christine Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Fag papers , not 20p, is jammed somewhere i expect
ruffgeezer Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 All 3 are metal. What position is the lever stuck in?
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 ^ This. Also the lower ones are really low down at the back of the gearbox.
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Yea sorry, road grime made it look plastic. Gear lever feels like its in neutral.
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 There is also a plastic ball and socket thing near the top lever, that sometimes jumps out too. I don't think I've ever seen a saxo that actually broke the gearbox, it's always the links. This could always be a first though!
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 All links are present and correct and also attached. Its like neutral is between first and third and a physical block is stopping it going back
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Have you a torch and a phone camera? yes and yes
wuvvum Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 FFS man. You must have done something REALLY bad in a previous life. Like dry-bumming-a-nun-using-a-kitten-as-a-condom bad. Christine, robinmasters, michael1703 and 7 others 10

The Moog Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Shitting hell. Never rains but pours. Checked Google maps and am best part of two hours away so no help I am afraid.
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 I think he meant take photo and show everyone.I gathered that after I thought about it. Sorry. richardmorris 1
D Spares & Tyres Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 If links are all still attached then it may be the joint at the base of the gearstick? try manually selecting a gear by moving a lever on the gearbox with your hand. You should be able to find second gear so you can drive home. Slowly! Do not still do 50 and over heat it ☺
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 OK, left/right movement is controlled by the lower two rods. Try and see if you can move the lever by hand. If you can't, try pulling/pushing on the top lever to find neutral then try again.
dollywobbler Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Jeepers. Sadly, I'm also many hours away.
bub2006 Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 Its in neutral now. No matter how much I try I cant shift
scaryoldcortina Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 also, and sorry, but check again that the bottom link is attached to the gearbox. Just in case. AndyW201 1
catsinthewelder Posted November 28, 2015 Posted November 28, 2015 Can you wedge the clutch down with a stick or something to make it easier to move into a gear.
