Compressor shite

I have just invested in one of these -

I had vouchers to use - enough to get a 50 L item. However a VAT free day came up so I lumped some money as well towards it.

100 L, 3hp 14.5 cfm. I won't be painting with it much, but I want something that will run an impact gun and a plasma cutter. If I do any more projects I refuse to use nibblers or angle grinders to chop steel off.

When I went to order it, the assistant at Machine Mart tried to point me in the direction of something bigger - sorry but not enough money or space. I told him what I wanted it for and that I had been looking at a 50 litre item, he shook his head and said it would not have been man enough.

It would have been, but it would have stopped more often to refill the receiver, that's all. Why sell the bloody things then if they are'nt good enough?

I need some suitable lines and fittings now ( quality ones make a big difference) before buying some tools.

I had thought about spraying the SD1 however my garage is closer to my neighbours house than my own - I think they would have something to say about the fumes.

For the same reason the forecourt has everything from the 1.1 to the 3.5

Of course they'll try and sell you the 2.2 or the 2.8 because that's the upper middle of the range and will be "just about adequate" and the base models "not really enough"

That is very similar to my compressor, 100 litres, 4HP 15 or 16 cfm. But mine is a better colour being blue! :)

It will spray cars no problem but then I do have HVLP guns so even a smallish one will do the job. It will run my windy gun quite happily and I've got a windy ratchet as well - no bother. Best tool I ever bought was a Snap-on die grinder *well, the bits are Snap-on the grinder is their 'cheap' brand) and it is awesome!

I picked the colour because I support LFC.

Mine's currently in the living room, sitting on my skull-and-crossbones skateboard for portability (no garage yet).

It's an ex-dentist one so it's pretty quiet, and although it's not mega powerful, the previous owner claimed to have painted parts of a car with it once with some success.

I've used it for cleaning stuff out, and with an air hammer for taking the plaster off ready for a mortgage-enforced DPC.

Here it is doing that:

I have a huge old double pumped industrial thing that has its own shed.

If you are doing your own DPC I have an Injection pump you can borrow

My compressor - I saved for this for ages to replace the hobby compressor I had.  I run DA sanders, HVLP guns, windy guns, portable sand blaster as well as my blast cabinet and all sorts of other goodies.  I would never want to be without a compressor again.  I gave my old unit to my mate as I couldn't be arsed with selling it and there was nothing wrong with it.

Thanks, but I'm not a paid-up member of the Property Care Association, so I wouldn't even be able to ignore that a moisture meter might read higher when pressed into foil-backed wallpaper, never mind consider ventilation or fixing leaky chimneys before writing a several hundred pound report demanding removal of perfectly good plaster, another run of large holes being drilled in every wall for a chemical DPC, then tanking and perfectly smooth cement plaster to match* the original lime plaster.  Thankfully the mess is done with now (except for no flooring or skirting boards) but it's a bit of a sore point for me.

Back to compressors: I did pick up a sandblaster, which is entirely useless with the volume of air my compressor can push, and a DA sander, which is entirely useless until I can get a car into the house (or move the compressor into a garage!)
