Renault Laguna, Y reg. But why, Reg?

It works! YAY!!! OK, about a mile after filming this the "SERV" light came on, but apart from that and some slight burning smells that I'm sure* are just oily handprints burning off hot components all is well. So far.

edit - Between Youtube and Samsung my video has gone all sideways. Worked fine on the phone and the PC, dammit. Ah, fixed. Also getting a copyright warning now so if adverts appear they are not my fault.

Scrapyard got this today - clutch has failed and they towed it in so no money changed hands.

Fingers crossed, and OH DEAR not another one

Have a look at the MoT History - it hasn't exactly been reliable, and it seems to have been untested since last april which might tell a tale of its own....

That just seems like a massive shame to me.

Glad to see you've got your own Slag working again. This thread is the sort of thing that would make me cry if I had drunk a bottle of red wine.

That's a new car that!

^^ I know, it's bizzare! I've got socks older than that.

So you've got another one? Happy days!

No!

Scrapyard over the road have it. It's just parked outside of my unit, honest.

Yes it's like the stray dog that follows you home "can we keep him?"

Well, he hasn't added it to his online stock list yet, but it 100% isn't mine. I'm not saying that if the owner had rung me instead I wouldn't be owning it for free, but they didn't. Thankfully.

If you did acquire it and if the electronic parking brake is working, its is worth £80-120 on eBay...

Small update - it's been reliable enough to need petrol (at last!) and hasn't failed to proceed in over 100 miles. Record?

No one wants the ebay engine so far, even for 99p.

Got the logbook for mine through today. I am gonna put it on the road at the beginning of Feb!!!! Exciting times!!!

Fuxake ebay!

Engine sold for 99p. Wow. Great.

Even better, the buyer is in London and has paid by paypal. I suspect they missed or ignored the collection only bit, or think that I'm going to pallet it and send it to them FOC. Waiting to hear back from them.

Car still not broken again yet, which is good. I'm almost starting to trust it.....

Scary will no doubt get about 70p after ebay have paid themselves for the great service they have provided.

They have helpfully provided a "print postage" button on the listing now the buyer has paid. How many stamps do you need for something you wanted taking away?

Uhoh.

Hi, when can i collect the engine and where? Please send your full address and phone number to arrange collection.
Regards
Tomas

I know from his postcode that his ebay address is 230 miles away. I've sent him my mobile number and the postcode of the yard.

maybe ok... Happy with an extra tenner, should be a van calling for it on monday.

Wait and see.

99p? Wow.

If word gets out Renault engines are that cheap, maybe the price of the cars will start to rise. Maybe you've ruined it for everyone Scary. Suddenly a borked Scenic will cost two grand because you can get a new motor off the shelf in Poundworld and none of them are scrap fodder any more.

Well, I guess it depends how much you need the engine and it is a bargain! Renting a van (or borrowing a mates), fuel and driving ~460miles is probably much cheaper than an eBay engine that is on for £200-300 odd.

Are you starting to like the old girl? Or just feels like another modern euro-box with 4 wheels.

Old? This is the newest car I've ever had! Also, I tend to treat cars like appliances. It's like "liking" the new washing machine which is functionally identical to the last washing machine in a series of washers going back to when we got our first automatic and put the twintub out for the rag and bone man.

But yeah, it's ok. It's a car... Only real niggle is that every time I park up and go to stop the engine I reach for the normal key position on the right side of the column and there isn't anything there.

1.8. It's powerful enough to not be complaining about but not powerful enough to shout about.

Also 30mpg so far, which is a bit meh, but way better than the 16mpg scorpio.

Don't you have a tweaked mk2 'Tina amongst your collection? I'd struggle to treat one of those as an appliance; I've always quite fancied the things.
