Right the vectra isn't as badly damaged as I thought. Small dent on front subframe but that's it. Had the ex wifes veçtra c at the side for comparison and everything in line. I've pulled radiator further forward what gave perception of buckled subframe when it was knocked back. I will repair this I think. Tom how much just for recovery please?

Shit, that sucks but at least it's only the car that's damaged.

As others have said, I think the car sounds dead. The subframe pushing back doesn't sound good.

Hope you get this sorted quickly and painlessly. Another car shouldn't be to hard to source.

You walked away Daz.

The rest is bent metal.

It may look ok just make sure nothing suspension/ steering wise has moved.

 glad your ok, that could have been so much worse. Sheep don't seem fussed about the big silver intruder in there field.

Sadly I think that will be shagged. Underneath will have all sorts of damage. Bad news mate.

I have to agree. That wall won't have been kind to it. Recovery without a hiab looks a bit of a problem too.

Posted

Hard to tell with it still being part of the scenery, but it's taken a fair old thump so I'd be amazed if you get away with just a dented subframe & curly radiator.

Posted

It will be difficult to get that off the wall without causing more damage.

Posted

Right it's off the wall with use of a rope and tractor. Underneath doesn't look too bad at all. Exhaust kippered I think but doesn't look too bad at all. I need to arrange getting it back and go from there.

Posted

The wall was level with Road with a few raised bits. Looked a load better in daylight and not as bad as I thought.

Doesn't look too bad! I have to say I think you're lucky it didn't roll!

Count yourself lucky Chompy Snake wasn't driving, you'd have ended up in the next county ;)

Some might think LUCK. I prefer to credit the REACTIONS AND SKILL of the driver.

Anyone from the Midland Massiv available for a spannering* sesh at Bub's today/tomorrow?  Have Halfords Pro set; don't know what to do with it, but will travel...

* this autocorrected to "spattering", which is an entirely different sort of party...   :)

Why thank you!

Just remember that as well as any impact damage, there's still whatever caused the lockup in the first place...

I'd be most appreciative of this I really would but I don't know how to get car home and I've no bacon to provide goodness

Abs sensor, seemed to roll freely when being pulled. I need to investigate fully.

I have a Blingo and a towing bar.  Can bring bacon...

yep.

For the car to have applied brakes by itself....well, frankly I dont see how thats explainable short of some kind of massive failure of the electronics (does it have ESP?) causing the ABS pump to run and brake.

A failed sensor would not do this - ABS is a "fail safe" system in that failure of a component like a sensor or pickup ring just disables the ABS and leaves perfectly working manual brakes and a little light on the dashboard.

I honestly don't know. Happened so quick. Apparently the locals said the road can be bad for grease and oil/diesel but I need to investigate fully before I buy things to fix ot

I'd be most grateful but I can't provide fuel yet mate.

Pffft.  PM me your phone number and location straight away.

In my experience "the locals" always say this when you have a mishap...I think it's said to make you feel better. I hope you do find the problem and it isn't some horrible intermittent thing which can only be reproduced at 40mph on a damp bend.

It's impossible for the ABS to apply the brakes on its own, the ABS pump can only modulate the pressure applied by the master cylinder. ABS light coming on just before a slide is usually a sign that a wheel let go and isn't revolving as quickly as it should. Usual cause - excess speed on a slippy road.

Slippy road....

Well soon as I get it to civilisation I'll investigate it fully mate. I need to sort it. I've too much invested in the car. If I have to get another motor I'd seriously have to consider a vectra so I can salvage as much as I can
