Mazda's M2 division made a few prototype NAs and a limited run of NBs.

I think BMW made a couple of e36 5 door hatchbacks for testing but as the compact never really caught on in America the idea was shelved.

Some very interesting stuff but some need words as I've no idea what they are or how they're different from normal (mainly the BMW and Mercedes stuff)

 

They all are either prototypes that never made it into production, or customs handmade in small numbers by external coachbuilders/amateurs.

The versions shown here were sadly missing from the portfolio of their respective manufacturers, despite they might have yielded strong sales.

 

Which ones give you difficulties identifying?
