Stolen burnt out cars

Vaguely connected, I once had a burning scooter thrown at me from the Divis Tower in Belfast.

I like to think it was personal and not just because I was another anonymous squaddie

If it makes you feel any better I am sure it was personal.  If you still aren't sure would it help if I offered to throw a flaming, motorised two-wheel conveyance at you?

This car has been parked up round the corner from me for a few days now. Passenger window is down so now wet inside. Doors are unlocked. Someone's had the stereo out of it. I've reported it to the police but it's still there. I think it must have been stolen? Someone must be missing it?

Well it's still there.  No rush for anyone to claim it.

Found this rather distressed Mk 2 Cav in Glenfargs disused railway tunnels.  Reminded me of Cocklawburn beach links in Northumberland in the 90s.  You could still find the badges from some of the cars even after the wrecks were cleared as the badge would fall in the heat when the adhesive failed.

It was common for football games to be called off at my school because there was a burned out Nova (or similar) in the centre circle.

Not seen one in a while though, thankfully.

I remember reading about a Cortina that was stuck in a mine shaft somewhere in Wales. It had been chucked down there years ago and was wedged end to end across the shaft. Any prospective explorers has to squeeze past it...

which I drove past every day for a week on the way to work, the scorch mark is still there. There must be some local scallies, 4 months earlier there was a burned out Ford Courier in almost exactly the same spot.

When forced to do cross country at secondary school part of the circuit always took us through a wooded area. Since those in charge were PE teachers, they were naturally too dim to see the obvious flaw in their plan, since we'd all stop there to catch our breath then lie about the number of laps we'd done since they weren't paying attnetion anyway. There was a burnt out car that made a good resting spot, but can't remember exactly what it was.

I used to do a lot of off roading back in the 90's and we were forever coming across dumped cars. Most were just dumped but there were a few that had been nicked and burnt out. A few pictures from Oradour-sur-glane all burnt out during the second world war when the Nazi's decided to take retribution against the town and murdered the whole population and burnt it down.

Is the bit in the foreground perhaps engine/gearbox/subframe, upside-down?

It's the drivers side front chassis leg and floor, quartered and upside down,

There was a farmer up the back of Paisley who had loads of them on his farm . They used to get burned out and block the lanes so he just stacked them all up and the police would come out now and again and check the vins.

Burnt out cars are like grey dog shit, you don't see them anymore. Although if you don't like your Zafira you could burn it out. It would save Vauxhall a job.

A lot of the shed heads don't bother torching cars now given you need the keys to take it, so if you are going to do that you might as well break in someone's house in the dead of night and take the BMW, you'd have to be beyond stupid if you then torched it given the burgeoning market for used parts that you could make on. In short it's killed joy riding off.

Yeah it was up the Gleniffer Braes somewhere, I remember seeing it on a TV show about car theft years ago.

When I was younger me and my papa used to take the dogs for walks across fields and there would be a new car burnt out almost daily under railway bridges, down railway embankments and so on, a lot of them were Nova saloons from what I could make out, easy to steal because of the hazard switch trick. I seem to remember you could break into old Fords with a tennis ball cut in half and on mk1 Mondeos if you hit a certain bit behind the front bumper hard enough it would unlock the doors because it thought the car had been in an accident but hit it too hard and it would pop the airbag as well.

Last one I seen was back in March, a VW Tiguan I think, in a lane near Lenzie/Kirkintilloch.

Apparently, its the "done thing" in certain cities to burn cars at New Years. It happens so much that some genius decided that the government should pay out rather than the car owners insurers.

What a massive surprise that on New Years Eve in these places people park their cars in huge piles bumper to bumper door to door and when one gets torched by unknown* revellers* they all go up......payouts for everyone with no loss of insurance bonus.

Prob won't need to bother torching your Zafira - happens automatically apparently.......
