Tyre disposal.....

My local tip charges for tyre disposal.

Knowing this I pulled up, got out of the car and said to tip bloke 'What's that over there mate?'  He turns to look, I put 2 tyres on a large pile of tyres.

He turns back and says 'dunno mate'.

The thing is......even I didn't think that would work!

I believe the best* way is to hang them over the nearest Gatso, a litre of unleaded, and a match. Everyone's a winner.

I have always paid for tyre disposal. My local place charges about a quid a tyre. Tyres are a bloody nightmare to get rid of and It really annoys me when I see them fly tipped everywhere. It is nearly as bad as tipping your old engine oil down the drain. Try the local tip first as they will take a few for nothing or if you have a lot ask the local tyre place and they might give a discount on disposal.

Or if they are really old and fucked, take them to the part worn tyre 'specialist' near Rotherham.

That place over the road from Top Tread? Direct deal tyres or something?

They tried to sell my dad his old tyres back! He went in for a pair on the front of his van after it failed the MOT on them a few years ago, then the week after he got a puncture on one of the rears -  a pair of scissors through the inner wall.

He went back down (cos admittedly they didn't charge much) and they dragged one of his old front tyres off the shelf, complete with silver overspray all up the outside and yellow chalk from the MOT place pointing out the split in the inner sidewall and were about to charge him £20 for it!

It's worth asking at your local recycling centre. Our local authority (Kirklees) takes them & doesn't charge. They're pretty good on recycling all round to be fair, IIRC the only thing they won't take is asbestos.

Makes sense really; if they don't take tyres, gas bottles etc. then people will simply put them in the wheelie bin or wang them over the nearest hedge instead.

Angle grinder.

Chop them up into quarters.

Wheelie bin.

Or as I don't have a grinder I cut the sidewalls off with a kitchen knife and fold everything up and hold with cable ties

That's my second favourite Mandela joke

Is the first one "What's the difference between Winnie Mandela and a pigeon?"?

NOT nearly as environmentally bad. Tyres just look back where as old engine old in a storm drain is actually bad. I've got a few tyres on my garage roof. and wheels.

I was told a story about a landlord who rents or industrial units...

He let one on a short lease to a guy who insisted on paying readies up front for 6 months.

All seemed well for a while. Place was kept tidy, lots of vans and trucks coming and going. Usual warehouse stuff.

4 months in and everything goes quiet.

No one had been in or out for weeks and the rental period was up. Guy who rented it didn't answer any calls.

Eventually the Landlord broke in to discover the unit was stacked floor to ceiling with old tyres.

It cost the landlord about 6 times what he had got in rent to get rid of them.

How many did you have to get rid?

The stoke tip doesn't accept tyres, here's an idea though Lankytim, does tyreforce in Burslem still chuck their waste tyres out front? If so maybe you could add to the pile in the middle of the night

The farmer thing is the answer. its the old hiding them in plain sight thing. Find the large tarpaulin with the tyres all over it.... they are usually a good way from any houses and just add your tyres to the hundreds holding it down....
