You're fixing a Zafira, if you were lucky you would be in the position of not fixing a Zafira :-D

Good man, may rose blossoms dust your every path on your eternal walk through the garden of Eden.

Now she has a courtesy car.

A 15 plate BMW 120d, almost new. I will put my disgusted autoshite hat on at every opportunity.

It does, er, go quite well.............

I had a motability car for 9 years on behalf of my mother. Every one got hit, think there were about eight or nine courtesy cars. The first was a Peugeot 206 1.1LX which was here for the best part of 15 weeks whilst they tried to find a front bumper for my Focus 1.6 Zetec.

After that I always pushed for an equivalent car, my favourite was our 60-plate Mondeo shitheap which was reversed into at a set of traffic lights (seriously) which they tried to replace with a Toyota Aygo. I kicked up, they took it away and came back with a Peugeot 107. I got a bit shouty. Ended up with a silver 10-plate BMW 320D SE M-Sport touring which was here for about seven weeks. Tremendously capable but incredibly uncomfortable. That said it didn't stop me terrorising middle lane wanks on the M8 in it, wearing a black shirt, bodywarmer and with a yellow jacket on the load cover.

Top work, hopefully the next yard will turn up some more parts. Where do you stand once its repaired, is there a marker against it?

Yes - there will be a marker against it.  It is cat C.

Silverlake.  Didn't have it.  Sorry sir, occasionally the internet is wrong.  But - I said, it said 'no parts removed yet'. Sorry Sir.

Right - rang GR Harris.  Yes - we have two in that paint code.  They had to go out in the yard and look but they rang me back.  Only a few miles down the M27 and I am now the proud owner of a bonnet in the correct colour and a bumper and ANOTHER front wing as the last one had a defect and ANOTHER bumper.  Why?

Well the best bumper in the correct colour had foglights.  Er, and our car doesn't.  And the grill is heat staked in so I would be better off doing the swap at home.  And when I got home, the grill is good enough on the broken bumper.  But never mind all that.

I have my parts.

And have fitted some.  Aligning panels, fun, huh?  Might get my lifetime of fixing cars friend to help.......

But my message of the day?  GR Harris in Emsworth, a family run business, really helpful people who we must help.  (The owner admitted that the low price of steel isn't helping them).  Buy more parts from them - they went out into the yard to check what they REALLY had.

Silver Zafira parts apparently not as easy to find as expected.  Then again, I don't know the last time I saw a Zafira with the half-painted bumpers.  Bonus Dyson background action in one of the pictures for Beko there too.

Lol ive just spotted that, dc04i...the cyclone is upside down... You may want to fix that!

  1. fit fog light bumper
  2. check fusebox for fuse
  3. change light switch
  4. install relay into fusebox

hey presto your car now has "Static cornering lights"

It only came with one decent foglight.  It really will be easy to blank off, and I will put the decent fog on ebay (along with all the other junk left over from the job including the good spare bumper which I will make a decent profit on).

However, her indoors has declared that she must now have a new car.  New new.  As in new.  No six months old, has to be new new new.

Sigh.  Well I will carry on fixing it anyway.  Might be my WBOD actually.

Well, lots of messing about and it is back together.  Still a few adjustments to make (!) but at least it looks like a car.  Paint match is GOOD

Nice work! What do you think is the estimated repair cost all up?

Posted

Cost, if I don't include my time:

Radiator new £42

Front wings (both), air con fan, front cross member, headlight, plastic panel below headlight, bits and pieces £70

Bonnet, another front wing (it was better), bumper, another bumper for sections for foglights £120

total £232

But one wing, one bumper, one foglight, one air con fan minus cowl all to sell on ebay.

Cost from insurance £290.

Total £522 reckon I should get about £70 back on bits......

Not too bad.  Taken ages though.
