Amazon Adventures

Well I had to think of something for the title. 'Me fixing rusty bits on the Amazon' doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

The worst b it on the car is an area of about 8" long on the trailing edge of the drivers side rear wheelarch. There are other bits too but I will tackle these as time progresses.

I also have the newly acquired seats to fit.

Photos and moar stuff to follow later today :)

We need MOAR pics. We need lots and lots and lots of pics. Pretty please for more pics.

A quick reminder of what the car looked like when I went to view before buying.

Inside:

Lovely dash. The speedo housing is a little tatty but I should be able to sort that with some Humbrol paint:

The dash pad is a little warped and has some cracks in. I don't mind this actually but I do have an excellent spare to fit if I can be arsed.

The door card pocket is a bit wonky but I can fix that. I also took out the folding parcel shelf out and will refurb it as time allows.

By far the worst bit of the whole car and was quite frustrating. The carpet is a new one and is quite nice. It just needs a little trim here and there.

I found a set of seats via the owners club forum. They are in good condition but they were a tad over 300 quid which is a bit steep. Although where would I get another set?

They will replace these:

Some little odds and sods body-wise:

Looks like you will have to let some metal into the wheel arch.

I like this very much - they look (and are) a very robust car.

They are a robust car thankfully, simple mechanics and electrics make like easier and the underneath bits of this one are as solid as solid can be. No worries there.

I set about cleaning the grot on the wheel arch and it was more or less what I anticipated.

You are quite correct about letting some metal in. Luckily wheel arch repair panels are easily available and quite reasonable price-wise. Hopefully I will be able to get one next month and cut a section out. My mate is a handy gas welder which is good.

This is what came out and seems to be a large dollop of rubberised sealant type stuff.

This is how I have left it for now. It has been rust killer treated. A gaffer tape cover will be applied when it goes down to my mates place.

That is actually the worst bit on the car.

These are great cars, tough as old boots and made from granite!

Doesn't look too bad at all rust wise.

I'm sure I remember this from PC mag. Can't remember who's it was though?

You will do. It was Keith Moody's car.

It isn't bad at all really seeing as it is 50 years old.

Finally got rid of the shite, mismatched seats. The proper colour and non-ripped seats have been installed. Oh does it look better :)
