New Project

I've recently sold my escort van at a significant loss, so naturally I thought I'd repeat the process and invest some more time and money unwisely. With money burning a hole in the pocket I went to visit a local mechanic/car hoarder. I came away with two MG B GT's for the princely sum of £500. One is chrome bumpered 1970's tax exempt all complete but in need of a bare metal respray, welding etc. The other is a rubber bumpered 80's model which had been used by a local college as a training tool, it's got a lot of new panel/door and running gear but has been sat for a good while with now glass open to the elements and has surface rust here and there.

The bloke I bought it off reckons the best way to go would be to rip everything good of the rubber bumper car and make a good one of the chrome bumper model.

Can't wait to get stuck in! Pics to follow.

Someone should have suggested rubber bumpers to Ford on those Mk1/2 Mondeo's.

Yes, restoring the less valuable, uglier, worse handling one that costs money to tax is without doubt the AS way.

With one tax free one in there you got a bargain. A local bloke put a diesel b series engine in his but he emigrated to Australia shortly after doing the conversion so I suspect it was not a success.

Hopefully I won't fail so badly as to have to leave the country in shame and disgrace. But you never no.

Ideal donors for a Sherpa van or tuned Marina?

Paint the newer one orange, whack on Rostyles and forever be the ginger stepchild at the MG Owners Club. And that's a win in my book
