Old newspaper adverts - now with added telly

A couple stumbled on the other day when I was looking for something else.

Both from the Glasgow Herald, June 1980

First up, who can't be tempted by the beige interior in the 1976 Volvo 66:

Also never mind the second-hand motor, just check out teasing tempter of a video cassette recorder for ONE NEW PENNY!

I'll take the 244 DL auto please. Though a yellow 245 does sound appealing.

Google have digitised the Glasgow Herald and Glasgow Evening Times up to 1990, many hours have been wasted looking at similar adverts.

Indeed, but if you spot any gems bung them up. I've got a couple more in the pipeline...

The VCR one just looks so Viz to me. No idea about the price in 1980, but the old fella bought a Sony C6 in 1983 from Comet Discount in Abbotsinch for a mereî¼Â379 quid which must be over a grand in today's money.

Daily Record is also digitised. Thinking about ringing up for a 1966 VW Camper, 12,000 miles, full MOT, £495. Hope it's still there.

That's about what you'd get for a VCR now.

You'd make a tidy bit on a 131 Sport though

Shurely shome mishtake? (At least it's the right colour)

Side of smoked salmon? It's not a VCR though, is it?

£3,000? No Mr Neil Scott, it's £2,495. Chancer.

Come across this from STV 1990.

I forgot that Peat Road Motors splashed out on BBC Scotland's sports supremo Dougie Donnelly to front this first advert.

Shame on you Dougie.
