That building behind was my old office for a while about twenty years ago. Used to fall straight into a pub most days, often then going to Crowtree to play 5 a side afterwards.

Miserable town but happy times

I think those are 'Newcastle 900' banners, so 1980.  You can almost smell the newness in that beige Cortina.

It really went downhill once they took the pencils out.

those giant pencils were great - a trip to town wasn’t complete without a climb on the pencils :)

A large chunk of my childhood was spent on those awful vibratory bastards. They replaced Mercedes units. That on has just lost its red colour scheme

Newton Road High Heaton 1909. Very early Newcastle BB reg no. BB registrations were issued from January 1904.

Winthrop Laboratories Limited, Fawdon 1957. This site belongs to Accord Healthcare now. I worked there in 2003 when it was run by Sanofi working on some expansion and upgrading.

My old man worked at Stirling/Winthrop when I was a lad. Mam worked next door at Rountree at the time.

The 'metal tins' (of Rowntrees sweets) were printed up on tin sheets running through printing presses built at my factory, Crabtree of Gateshead @Team Valley estate.

Fire at Hardy's Store in  Sunderland, May 2002. 

The fire caused upwards of four hundred pounds worth of improvements to the city centre.
