Van info request

   I am considering investing* in a van as my existing one has not moved in the last year because someone has not fitted a new gearbox.   I thought this would be a subtle discrete replacement and would fill my neighbors lives with happiness*

Any opinions on Renault 2.8 dci engined vans ?

Who gives a fuck. Just buy it 'cos it looks tatty and cool and would be welcomed* by any neighbours with open arms.

Van info.

The seats in the MB Sprinter I hired yesterday are dreadful. If they had fitted church pews to it my arse wouldn't be as battered as it is today.

Saying that, I did do just short of 800 miles in a day.

LDV Cub.

Something like the LT SDi wuvvum sold recently would be good, those engines run and run.

I thought anything with Renault and Dci= shit,unreliable and injector fuck up.

The Renault master 2.8 dti isn't a bad van actually . It's an old iveco lump with the miracle of a throttle cable ! No common rail dbw shit there .

Bit prone to ball joints and some big tools needed to do them but overall not bad . Check for rust

Check for rust

Didn't realise they were prone - do they hide it well then? I.e. better than the old Masters!

Dci = don't consider it.

I have a Master 2.8 DTI.  The gearbox is tired (can anyone see a theme developing here?) and it has rust in the passenger sill under the door, but the engine is spot on after over 250K miles, starts first flick every time and pulls like a train.  As others have said, nice simple engine with a cable running direct from the accelerator pedal to the injector pump.  The big SOFIM engines don't rev - mine runs out of puff at 3,750 rpm and the later common rail version I had in the Ducato wouldn't rev over 4K - but the torque is immense.  They handle nicely for a big van too.
