No beard, no genitals.

No bearded genitals. This could only go well.

Am working on the lies and excuses as we speak.....

Well done that man! Does me proud, etc, etc.

I blame eddyramrod... Once you drive an american car no going back he said....Won't want anything else he said... It will change your life he said....turned out to be true. All your fault Eddy! Send me a meat n tater pie by return and all will be partially forgiven.

I haven't actually got a beard.... The distinct possibility of having no genitals now looms once Mrs B finds out.

Who cares, you've got two yanks! Sounds like a win to me.

I'm glad this has found a home, one that's still on here and not oval shaped.

Maybe once Mrs_Duke finds out I've bought the Dolomite, we could start an A$ Eunuch Support Group?

I'd rather the car go to a dedicated AS'er than Joe Public. So I lose a few quid, no big deal in the scheme of things. Folks on here have sent me stuff FOC or sorted stuff out for me.

That in itself makes up for any perceived 'loss'. :)

Would this have the same autobox as a '97 Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3?

If so, I'm sure I have a autobox sump gasket here. Bought but never used.

I'm not sure mate, am really not. It's a 3.1 litre engine but other than that.....

Unlikely, I'd say, as Oldsmobile and Chrysler are deadly rivals.  Olds is GM, Chrysler is.... well, Chrysler.

You may be able to fashion your vegetables into something that opens the boot.

Can I buy it back when you've fixed it? :)

I was over at the barn today due to the Mondeo.

The Olds was looking at me like a smacked puppy :(

Have been working on the 'lies and excuses' before the car purchase becomes obvious to Mrs Beard and turns up on the drive....

Some creative thinking has got me a plan forming! Only 19 days left to craft the plan into an unshakeable reallity worthy of the best James Bond villain...... MuuuuuHaaaaaaHaaaa..... (Strokes imaginary cat and sets defensive shields to Imminent)

It's all right for you, I've got to explain a trip to Manchester and a sudden MG!

Maybe we could blame each other? Lay down a massive smoke screen to confuse the other halves.....

Once they have worked out who is actually at fault the anger may have subsided to DEFCON 2 and more easily dealt with!

Shouldn't be too difficult really... About the size of a boot key but not as stiff. Need to work on that.

No shame in changing ones mind about purchase due to threat of testicular removal he says semi-hopefully :)

The Olds is now with its proud* new owner, our very own bobthebeard who isn't Bob and has no beard.

It was collectioned yesterday by a very nice Lithuanian chap who seemingly liked biscuits and discos, maybe not all at the same time but who knows.

A small FTP ensued when the car arrived at its new home, hopefully a jump start will bring her back to life and maybe then some fettling may ensue.

Chap needs some of these.

Update.

The FTP was down to a completely flat battery. As in 0 volts. The tricky ignition switch meant that the ignition was turned on all the time during transportation. All resolved by removing the battery (and putting it on charge) and replacing it with the one from the Honda Prelude. Started up ok but no forward or reverse motion until two litres of ATF was added, then progress. Moved it onto the Beard driveway. ATF dripping out so a plastic container was placed underneath. Much internet perusing has resulted in a replacement rear transverse spring! WooHoo. Am awaiting shipping costs...

As it stopped raining today I have spent an hour or two with the Oldsmobile. The recent 260 mile rain soaked trip on a trailer had ensured a good covering of road grime and in the daylight it looked fairly grim TBH. A good wash later and looking much better. Apart from a couple of rust breakthroughs on the front wing lowers it seems a solid old thing. Some tentative polishing on the cracked laquer did not much, but some careful sanding and re lacquering may improve those areas. Checked the fluid levels in preparation for running the engine up to temperature. The coolant expansion bottle looked empty, so added a couple of litres of coolant. It overflowed so clearly wasn't empty at all. Just hard to see the actual level! Ahem. Sorted that by draining out the two litres I had just added. Level now correct I think. Added a gallon of pez and ran the engine for 20 mins. All seems well. All the buttons and controls on the dash seem to do what they should. Cleared out a massive build up of leaves/bat poo/other stuff from the scuttle area that has built up during storage I assume. After initially wondering WTF I had done am now thinking this will make a great car given time effort and ££. (As Purplebargeken had said, to be fair!)

So much so that I have actually gone ahead and ordered the new rear leaf spring and fittings. Once I am certain the ATF leak is just a gasket, I will order the gasket and filter kit.

Fingers crossed but it should live again soon!
