Stick an XUD9TE in the ZX auto and see how long it lasts.

I remember a 405 automatic on eBay years ago converted to a TD, it'd probably be ok if you resisted full bore take offs.

It had Lacquer peel in 2009 when I first got it!

 

I had a manual non turbo ZX diesel and I bought this with Mrs Cyl mother in mind who needed an automatic to keep driving, I know these cars well and was not looking forward to driving it about instead of my manual to make sure all was well before handing it over, surprise this was the fastest ZX Diesel Auto I have ever driven!

Thank you. I shall introduce the rest of the fleet at some point. The grey Shogun is mine too, such a good but simple workhorse although the chassis will need a touch of weld for the next mot

I had a Kia Sedona 2000 reg with a badly peeling bonnet, so I paid a mobile paint guy to buff off the laquer and polish up the paint underneath as I was selling it - it did work, but I didn't watch him so couldn't say exactly what he did

He must of relaquered it, that's all I can think of that would rectify it.

The reason I took my Xantia off the road was that although I bought it to be an every day car I thought it was too good to be put through winter abuse. Tidy early Xantias Are getting thin on the ground.

 

This ZX is a bit rusty underneath although not rotten yet so won't feel too guilty about it getting the odd knock or salt under it ( I'll wax the underside though )

 

Problem is though I'll probably end up painting it if it proves itself, then It'll be too good for winter driving and subjecting to the plebs in the Tesco car park....

No, he definitely only polished the laquer off and waxed it up all shiny, he didn't have it long enough to paint in, and he told me what he managed to do without any paint - think it was because he is good at what he does, I would make a pig's ear of it no doubt

It's a diesel non turbo automatic

 

Have had a good look at it today and despite appearances it isn't bad at all

 

The auto selector isn't quite right and it needs a small bit of welding for the MoT but apart from major laquer peel issues it is actually quite tidy.

 

Filthy inside but will clean up well

 

It would be a shame to break it up I think so I will test it and run it for a bit as I need an economical winter car

 

Oh and it has a Bosch pump and the cambelt was replaced a couple of years ago before it was laid up!

Think it will make an ideal winter hack if I can live with the lack of power, it makes my Escort van seem fast!

 

The only problem really is the body. It's straight and not rusty but the laquer peel is so bad on it that it is quite an eyesore. I'm not easily embarrassed but this car just says ' I have no money whatsover' with the heirloom 306 people are really going to think we've fallen on hard times!IMG_20160123_144113.jpg

re celica, on the throttle body is a small grey lump, underneath. its a warm up device that uses coolant and corrodes internally. ive changed a few of them.

Picked up another new motor today off the same autoshiter as the auto one!

The deal was done early in December but it has taken ages to pick up due to it being the other side of a ford and constant rain since then so it has been impassable!

 

So this was supposed to be the better ZX of the pair. It's a quite straight turbo diesel with a Bosch pump but a bust cambelt.

 

It's very straight and tidy apart from bad laquer peel on the bonnet but is rustier than the auto underneath. Not too bad though. This one will get fixed in the next few weeks hopefully!

 

Also as seen on the dumped cars thread, I've liberated a few bits. Can't see anyone minding!

 

I wanted the alternator for my van and bub wanted the rear lights but then I noticed the down pipe was new so had that. Also I spotted the rear door a bit further down so I retrieved that as it is complete with a working handle and catch unlike my van. I took the complete door so i can dismantle at my leisure.

 

All in all, not a bad day for hunting and

gathering

Yes I still have it but as with most old bangers there is a story....

 

I took it up the road one day to test it out after refitting the exhaust. It conked out and wouldn't restart. A total stranger in a Transit gave me a tow with an old seat belt he had in the back of the van.

 

Eventually it started and I drove back to the yard fine, as if nothing had happened.

 

So the next day I had a look at it. Wouldn't go. Put a live straight to stop solonoid. No different. So bypassed fuel filter with an inline filter. No luck. Put an inline electric pump on. It would run just about but not very well and misfires when revved. No bubbles in the filter.

 

Must be an internal fault with the injector pump?Can't think of another reason and have never had one fail like this. Most unusual. Lucas by the way.

 

Haven't touched it since but it will get done eventually

405 now fixed and sold..

 

Haven`t done anything with the Wolseley, just been too busy but the way I see it is that it is in a nice dry garage and its future as a classic is assured so I decided to do some work on some others that no sane person would bother with and would of been scrapped were it not for me

 

So due to time constraints ( i.e. kids ) I have only managed to sort 2 cars this year and neither are particulary classic yet but are both shite so I thought I would share them with you.

 

This lovely old Rover 218 turbo diesel was bought by me around 3 years ago for the engine. After having a good look at it I decided it was too good to break and sold it to a friend who then tested it easily enough then ran it. 3 owners from new and only 100k

 

After 3 years of promising to tidy it up for him I spent an entire week of my life painting and welding it for him. I charged him £300 which was an absolute bargain I think! Not the best job admittedly as I don`t use 2K but its good enough!

 

Next I moved back on to the ZX automatic. It would be ready for a test but I seem to have buggered up the wiring to the headlight somehow. It only works on one headlamp and only on dipped beam.

 

I replaced the back axle then all the front suspension off a later model. It now has vented discs which mean it has to have 14 inch wheels and the only set I have availablo  are off a 306.

 

Can`t believe it needed so much welding!

And just when I thought I was done....

 

I did tidy the garage today though to make space to weld the Wolseley...

 

Oh and I suppose I should formally introduce the only permanant member of my fleet. I have had it since 2001 and will probably never part with it. What would be the point? 35,000 miles and never welded, I did paint it myself in around 2005 though. I love it, but rarely use it as I refuse to put seatbelts in it and I have young kids, although as the youngest has just turned 3 we shall be using it a lot this summer...

 

Think that is my update complete, I can`t think of anything else newsworthy I have done on my cars!

It never gets used and leaving it standing around won`t do it any good.

Very tidy car, 12 months test. I changed all the fluids 18 months ago but as its on 140,000 it probably needs a cambelt. Not much history with it but it has hardly done any miles with the last owner of 13 years. 

 

No rust, no faults other than a very high clutch pedal, possibly caused by the wrong cable as even with a badly worn clutch I`ve never seen one anywhere near this high. 

 

Will probably regret selling it, I still think its a lovely looking car

 

Could do with parting with something else too really. Maybe this 205 Will take some better pics at some point if anyone is interested but it needs a rear axle, welding, tyres and it has a dented N/S on all panels. But not beyond fixing or using as it is

 

Did I mention it is a turbo diesel? With power steering? Oh and a very tidy brown velour interior....

 

I want £300 for it, no point giving it away with the way 205 prices are going. I did already `sell` it once but after a brief phone then text discussion the chap just turned up to collect it when I wasn`t there. He came from quite a distance too but personally I would of arranged it better. What a plonker!

 

Or I would consider buying another 205 for spares and I can get this one done up, I don`t like doing up cars unless I have a doner

 

Ought to sell this old XUD powered 418 I bought off Lankytim last year too. Anyone want it? You can have it with a full MoT or as is. I don`t think it will need alot.
