Drag Strip Oddities

This is at North Weald today with many other AS type cars (photos will be loaded tonight), but this must be the slowest car in the line waiting to run. Bog standard, no mods whatsoever.

My parents had one of those in the early 70s when I was 11-13.  Slow doesn't even begin to cover it.  Unless of course what you've papped is a really excellent sleeper running a Zetec or some such.

58.16 seconds to do the quarter mile. Looks totally untouched by time or the two young owners.

There is of course some much modified stuff here including a Norton with a home built V8 engine. Two Reliant engines are used but looks very, very compact.

Normally when you weld two engines together, you put the induction side in to the v, you can then have a shared air box and your hot exhausts can be routed better

The plus side with the above configuration is heated knees in winter

That SD1 is a proper period piece-sunroof sealed up with mastic, weld patches along both sides, crumbling dashboard, ill fitting panels, etc.

And the V8 motor sounds absolutely glorious, with proper big burnouts and decent times achieved too.
