Favourite comedy shite?

SId James in Carry On Cabby.  He always looked so happy driving the cabs.  Of course loads of other cars in it, like all the Mk1 Cortinas.  I think that the very old cab in the film actually still exists as I remember seeing it advertised - more than can be said of the rest of the cars no doubt.

One to add to my list :)

Anyone know where I can get a copy of Goodbye Pork Pie? I've wanted to watch it for years.

PM me your address & (assuming I can find mine) I'll burn it for you.

Not really a comedy but the "fly on the wall" docusoap where the salesman gets a new Maestro is always good for a giggle

"the company .......... quite frankly....... have shit on me ...... for want of a better word"

The old Morris from the film The Plank. Classic comedy, still makes me laugh. The car was old then, I wonder what happened to it.

Can`t seem to get the hang of doing links but:

`The Plank`

great little film with some great actors.

That was posted same time as me, how strange!

I haven`t seen that one, I meant the one with Arthur Lowe and Eric Sykes in the Morris Minor

That's the re-make. Not as good.

It's definitely worth getting the Tommy Cooper/Eric Sykes version of The Plank, I think you can get it for about 7p.

Otto's beast of a Lincoln Continental from A Fish Called Wanda. Look at the size of it compared with the Sierra!

True - but put it next to a current Mundano...

The Fast Lady.  Well worth getting on DVD, some typical 1960s back projection but also lovely cars and a cracking chase with a Mk7 Jaguar at the end.

£475, if only............

I read that the production company bought it for £500 in 1962 and when the film finished they offered it to Leslie Phillips for the same price.  He was apparently too busy looking at Julie Christie and turned the car down, but I guess at the time it was just a cheapish old car.

1960, School For Scoundrels.  Terry-Thomas and Alistair Sim are absolutely perfect in this Ealing comedy.  A few interesting cars, an Aston Martin DB3S team car gunned by Moss, Collins, Brooks and Salvadori, subsequently driven into the Solent by a suicidal love-sick mechanic.  It was rebuilt and called a Bellini to make it sound more exotic.

There was also a Bentley made up to be a "Swiftmobile"

Dennis Price and Peter Jones are wonderful as the used car salesmen

That's it! The Swiftmobile! I was just thinking about that. Another hilarious film from the Golden Age of cinema. See also The Lavender Hill Mob, The Wrong Arm of the Law and The Ladykillers.

I never realised Terry and June went on for so many series.

It seems Terry had a green Princess followed by a beige one then an ambassador.

Living the dream there Tel.

He also had Fords. A mk2 Granada in series one and in the last series a Sierra.

But the Princess and Ambassador had more comedy value obviously, all BL cars being shit etc.

How have we gotten to three pages without this being mentioned?

A little before my time I only just remember it! Was The Gaffer a comedy?

I'd forgotten about Wrong Arm of the Law, brilliant film . Often wondered if the 250 GTE and DB4 GT actually belonged to Peter Sellars, they're very rare and unusual cars to used in a film.

In the chase scene the DB4 GT not only changes to a standard DB4 ,but also colour, when it jumps over a bridge.post-17414-0-94225200-1435482193_thumb.jpg

Was The Gaffer a comedy?

In the loosest sense of the word.

It was made at roughly the same time as The Young Ones and was the sort of "established" comedy that the Young Ones railled against.
