I write some words about some cars - Third Lane Motors - Latest: 30/06/15

Following in the footsteps of dollywobler and 320touring I've made a blog upon which I will scribble worlds about cars. I've made my first six posts about the track-day experience package I went on last year, I'm reasonably happy with them but I think some opinions from others would be valuable so even though this first set of posts isn't really shite related I'm posting them here anyway. If they suck, tell me and if you've got constructive feedback I'd love to hear it.

How I became a racing driver for a day: Introduction & Back to School

How I became a racing driver for a day: Ariel Atom

How I became a racing driver for a day: Ferrari 360

How I became a racing driver for a day: Aston Martin V8 Vantage

How I became a racing driver for a day: Audi R8

How I became a racing driver for a day: Conclusion

Latest article: Long Term Test: 2002 Suzuki Swift GLS 1.0

Seems pretty good to me. I'd also kill to drive an Atom. I saw one on the road at South Mymms, dad and son aboard. It looked ace.

Interesting read and good mix of cars.

My feedback is that I would say the only thing is that you haven't found your voice yet. Its a good blend of descriptive and emotive but personally I find the really interesting blogs tend to be emotive with the facts used as a garnish to support your credibility. I am sure it will come with time, and this is me being picky!

Ta, ace is certainly the word.

Nice blog Matt,easy to read and not too technical.

Thanks!

Yeah I'm still not sure how much fact to use because the last thing I want to be doing is writing reviews like 'this. is, the. new. Volkswagen. Golf. It Costs. Twenty. Thousand. Pounds' etc.

Finding your voice is something that only happens with time. I struggled when I first started doing it. I could write, it just didn't seem very interesting. Mind you, I sometimes read stuff I had published back in 2007 and can't believe I wrote something so good and so interesting! Even your own voice doesn't always feel like your own voice.

I didn't find the atom very fun to drive , very harsh and unforgiving . The Elise was a much "nicer " thing to drive. Atom was bloody quick tho even just the 220hp one

I do a lot of proof reading, and it is pretty good, picky points but trivial.  Keep it up.

Sounds like my old Land Rover...

I know what you mean, I was like 'So it's exactly the same as my old Polo!'

It's certainly for a certain type of person, maybe it was the instructor more than the car? I couldn't have asked for a better instructor, he really seemed like he wanted to push me to go as fast as possible.

Thanks, that's really good to hear for me as I've never really had much faith in my ability to write and failed my standard grade English exams hard. What would the picky but trivial points be?

Thanks, I'm just about finished a piece on my Swift but I edit even lowly forum posts loads so I'm not going to rush articles out as I'm likely to change them a lot before I'm 100% happy with them.

A mate lent me his Elise to have a go on Oulton a couple of years ago, and here's another friend's supercharged 300+bhp Atom doing a fly-by... :)

My stats are booming! Third Lane Motors is getting lots of traffic, that's what Wordpress is telling me anyway. I love all of the statistics the sites tracks for  me to see:

164 total views, 64 from here and 2 from Flickr.

United Kingdom = 131

Germany = 14

Australia = 7

New Zealand = 6

United States = 4

How many German residents do we have on here?

I had a quick look at this thread yesterday........and didn't even click the link as it was 'just another blog' .

Anyway had a look at the R8 one just now..........and had to read the others. They all read well......that's all I can say as I know fa about writing.

No offence to any other bloggers btw......

When I worked in print I always said that the proofreaders should get a bonus for every rickett they spotted not a bollocking for every one they missed.
