I had a go in a 306 once. Poxy pedals were way too close to each other so as to actually be unpleasant to drive. Shame as they look half decent.

Don't try and drive a 206 then! Only car I've ever managed to hit 3 pedals when going for one

SDi is like the engine in your Octavia sans turbocharger.

1.9D is Prince of Darkness as you ken.

Excellent, I stand corrected (said the man in the orthopedic shoes..)

Looks like 1.7/9 SDI are all Bosch VP37

306s are ok, I've got size twelve feet and never had a problem. It's the 106 and 206 that are a bit of a pain.

Make friends with someone who uses waste veg and they may deliver you to your destination, complete with fuel for the return. The further you travel, the more money you save. Best not to sack trolley 25l of veg through the Underground (especially if there's recently been a tube bombing). The long flight of steps at Bank Station seem to take forever.

Ah cool, it must have been changed at some point.

Apparently not ... It's a Lucas pump oops.

Lol at simply stopping the car, getting out, opening the bonnet and reaching into the dark depths to change heater from cold to warm.

Ideal!*

My last 405 looked just like that but had a more ingenious heater solution.

Two wires connected to the heat flap motor hung under the dash. A pp3 battery (supplied) touched across one way for hot, the other for cold.

I took it one step further with 2 pp3 batteries and a red and a blue push to make switch. 99p each from eBay.

Just don't press both at once unless you like the smell of burning. :-)

Mines not for sale, but a Tipo TD sounds like it would fit the bill ... No I haven't seen another for sale either.

Sorry for the pointless post.

I don't think the car you're looking for is for sale yet. Unless this is a sort of game, where we have to work out travel costs, bargaining discount and sandwiches and make the total exactly £588.

Very possibly.

To increase the success rate I'm gonna change the title to Recently Crashed shagged out cars, listed for spares or repairs, ideally with Lucas pumps.

Then everyone can be a winner.

Have you got a weak left leg? If not, then what's wrong with this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Reanult-Laguna-2-2-RT-DT-Long-Mot-Part-Ex-to-clear-/251995885767

Its being sold by a dealer, it needs a new clutch, its a modern Renault described by the vendor as "too good to scrap, or just for parts."

Other than that, they dont like Veg as far as I'm aware.

So youre certainly in the lead now that I've altered the original post.

They love veg. And it was LacPeel's post, page 1.

Audi 80 estate on gumtree? Private sale, he's called Sebastian. The car, that is. Sounds perfect.

Sounds like hes been living "under da sea" and has a dodgy Ariel.

Verdict: Plausible.

I think we've all found that around 500 or under, nothing's advertised which is really good in all depts. Have a look at this though - York isn't a million miles from you and I bet he'd drop to £600. The missing £12 will have to be found somewhere, though. The car sounds good enough to make the effort, if you really need something which isn't a heap and will run veg.

I did look at that Astra dude. Looks pretty good but too late for a Isuzu lump I think. GM Lowblow for the loss I fear.

Theres plenty out there thats good enough and in budget (potentially).  I was just looking for other peoples ideas, for which I'm grateful*.

The GM TD is good on veg.

Really?

I'd read that it very wasnt.  Is that across the board, or specific pumps?

That opens up a whole new avenue of endevour!
