Finally bought an old motor - now what tat should I buy for it?

Alright folks!

Finally got myself an old motor! It's a K (93) Fiesta 1.1 LX with just 28k miles from new and I snapped it up for £400, it's not mint but is solid and in very good nick for its age (slightly surprising given the previous owner was unaware of it's rarity and used it as an all year runabout for a few years).

I really want to give it an early 90s appearance which means of course I'd like to add a few subtle accessories and stickers (eg. an AA Relay sticker perhaps?), I don't want to make it look like Onslow's Cortina though if you know what I mean! lol

In 1993 I was still clambering around in my Pampers, so obviously I haven't got the greatest recollection of what stickers and accessories would have been common in motors back then, I've already put a period "97.3 Forth FM - Simply the Best" sticker in the back window (even though the car hails from Aberdeen...lol), can any of you recommend anything else?

I do remember my mum's mk2 Fiesta had blue circular sticker with 'DAS' in white letters on the windscreen, anyone remember what this might have been?

Many thanks!

Make sure you spend loads more on it than it's worth then sell for a big loss.

You could try and source an Atlantic 252 window sticker for it, if you're going for the early '90s look.

Up til about 5 mins ago I had no idea what that was but now I see it was a long wave radio station based in Ireland, do you know if it was broadcast all over the UK?

It was supposedly available all over the UK, but the reception was better the nearer you were to the transmitter in Ireland. Where I live (West Cumbria) it was pretty good. Except not during hours of darkness, for reasons I could never fathom.

It was also rumoured at the time to be boderline illegal for them to be transmitting a signal that was clearly designed to be picked up in the UK. Though that could have been an urban myth and/or confused with the legalities surrounding '60s Pirate Radio.

Atlantic 252 seemed to pretty much disappear in '98, for reasons never explained. So it was popular right around the time your Fiesta was young.

Nice motor BTW.

There are still stickers on a few cars in the far North West protesting against the Skye Bridge tolls - SKAT (Skye and Kyleakin against tolls).

Very 90s.

Yes it was, we used to listen to it back in the day.

I've just spoke to my boss and the lads at work, they used to listen to it to. Most of them are of the 'Rezerection' generation lol

Thanks mate. I've had a look for Atlantic 252 stickers online with no luck. I reckon I'll have to send an image to a sticker place and see if they can make one up for me. Something like this http://www.dxarchive.com/mw/images/atlantic252_sticker.jpg

I have, however, just purchased this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/381274165321

For a car of your period you need the following.

Auto lok (and window sticker)

Vehicle watch sticker from your local constabulary

Fischer C box

Garfield cuddly toy

Feu orange air freshner ( if you see one prepare for a good bending over )

Sparkrite alarm.

Lots of other things I should remember but will be lost in the midst of time.

I was driving a B reg cavalier SRI in '93, I had some of the above, I has set the bar for you.

Atlantic 252 died in the late 90's.

Remember the resident DJ Robin Banks?

Wasn't DAS some kind of legal protection scheme you could get with your insurance?

Period GB (Getting Better!) sticker and Bren beat me to it - the Feu Orange air freshner. Can you still get these? I wouldn't be surprised.

Posted

A Stena line gb sticker, some speaker pods, a Dimma fuel cap, some Monroe static strips, Top gear anthems cassette, one of those kettles you plug in fag lighter, some 3 spoke alloys, some 'Cannon' rubber mats, escort cosworth vents, Ring spot lamps... God need I go on...

Feu Orange air fresheners were reproduced a few years ago but smelt like a tramps armpit by all accounts. Occasionally an original will show up on eBay and they go for ridiculous amounts, even empty original ones are expensive

It is exactly that.

Deutscher Automobil Schutz - the first legal expenses insurance in Germany.

Fat Willy's Surf Shack sticker? Those fake 'fingers' that stick on to door edges, stick on door lock surrounds with the Ford logo on

Was just about to post about a Fat Willys sticker but got beaten to it. How about a massive "Kenwood" sticker on the back window to let everyone know you couldn't actually afford a decent stereo but did manage to stump for a sticker instead?

Fido Dido?

Anything from the Fibresports range of *ahem* bodykits

and not forgetting the "I can't afford a set of Morette headlights so I'll buy this cheap & tacky stick on cover for my headlights"

You've already got a great head start with the dealer plates and window sticker still being there. That's usually my first move. Maybe a BTCC mondeo sticker? Catches the zeitgeist of 93 ish with the Bailey ICS sponsored cars. To get ideas you can search "1993 sticker" on E bay- surprising what can crop up!

Period mods/ accessories all depend on your reference points- an early 90s fiesta with a cherry bomb exhaust and clear clusters reminds me of the late 90s and my friend's fiesta!

Life's a beach sticker. Full width of the rear screen.

Fluorescent green pinstripes.

Anything made by Kingavon, as sold in Motorworld and other low end car parts places, plus a set of 'Randall & Hopkirk' roof bars, Geoff, Geoff, Geoff etc

Old motor? 1993? You serious

All my dailies( bar one, just) are older than that. That's modern shite, that is!

Good luck with it, mind.
