Time to pass on the Disco

What can I say? it's been totally reliable since I bought it last August, plodding along a couple of hundred miles to work and back most weeks

Looks quite tidy when washed and waxed but it has it's spots of corrosion around the body, the worst being around the Lpg filler

Chassis-wise it's very solid underneath. It needed a 5" patch at the front of the o/s sill for it's last Mot but thats it

Previous Owner had the rear arches/door shuts done and sealed but as in the pics they could do with wire brushing back and sealing properly

He also sealed both the sunroofs shut so it's been water tight (so far)

Aircon works,as does the 6disc autochanger

Central locking works from the fob

Rear windows work when they feel like it

Interior is well used, seats are grubby and the rear carpet has a nice oil stain (PO again) though this seems to have helped the rear floor from not dissolving....

Mechanically it's in very good shape

158k,Engine uses No oil or water,no leaks. The exhaust manifold gaskets are blowing a bit

Gearbox is the same, shifting nice as it should. No leaks and the kickdown works fine

Goes into low range and the diff lock works as well

The front prop will need either changing,or the UJ's doing as there can be a Clunk when you change from drive into reverse

Both axles are leak free,no diff noises

Brakes were all replaced before I bought it 8mth ago

Front steering is leak free but the n/s front has some play in it.

When I had it Mot'd in Feb the tester told me that there was some play in a balljoint, but not enough to flag up as an advisory so I'm assuming it's got a bit worse

Tyres have decent tread on them

Lpg tanks are under the car and hold 50 litres.I can get 130-140 miles on this whilst plodding around/in town

I have the installation certificate for it

MOT till Feb next year, had 3 advisories last time of

Low headlight aim

Cracked rear indicator

MIssing bump stop

I'd be happy to jump in and drive it anywhere

Its not the fastest thing in the world but it does weigh the best part of 1.5 ton.....

Available anytime at Loggerheads TF9

Looking for £900 to a shite-er. May take a small hatch cheap px  (cough cough Billy cough)

Or something a bit different........or sporty......ahem

I have some off-road tyres on or off some steel wheels that could be inc

If I had £900 I'd be all over that. I don't, so I'm not, but I really fancy a Discovery at some point.

So do I but it's both the wrong kinds of fuel for me, sorry.

What is it with all these great value motors appearing lately?

What is it with all these great value motors appearing lately?

Make a decent offer and it could be even better value....... 8)

With my current bank balance any offer would involve knocking a zeros off the end I'm afraid

Posted

It's extremely noticeable that they've only appeared since I spunked all my reserves on a crappy Vectra!  Good thing most of them are too far away anyhow, I suppose, but this one... damn, so close!

If I ever had one of these it would have to be a V8 like this one.

My dad has had a couple of dizzler Disco's and I was very unimpressed, like a tractor with comfy seats.

Well it had to happen I guess.now I've put the disco up for sale and something pops up....

The rear exhaust box has decided to start rattling it's internals.

Not a big or expensive job,and possibly an ideal time to remove it altogether and release more of that v8 noise.

I don't have the time or money to do either tho, as the replacement vehicle has been sourced

This really could do with getting sold now,as we are running out of room

Will let it go for £700 to the first lucky person to arrive at Chez Jones

It's uninsured as of 16/05 so that will have to be sorted but still taxed till the end of the month

I lost the back box of my V8 Discovery once.  It made no difference to noise volumes, just a better quality of it.

If only I hadn't moved out of that house I shared with those druggies I could afford this

Following a comment from Skizzer on another thread I've done a bit of investigating and found the Disco doesn't appear to ever had ABS fitted

No pump or hub sensors and the brake pipes look factory to me...

1 of the major issues with the Older Land Rovers seems to be avoided on this Disco it seems

Whilst chatting on various LR forums it has been suggested that it May be a Japanese spec Disco,or even a re-import from there

I have no proof of this but it may explain a few things........who knows !!

Still needs to go tho so offers are welcome

I'd so love to drive down to you in my Vectra and back in this, but I have no means of making up the difference.  Sorry, not very helpful, is it?  Surely it must be reassuring to know that at least one Shiter is panting with lust for your old Landy!  GLWTS.

Aha, now I get it - I missed this first time round.  This may be of interest to my mate if your other offers don't work out, will ask him, though last I heard he was hankering after a Cherokee.

I should probably buy this.  I just find it hard to get really excited about Discos, for no good reason.  Hmm.

If you've got some spanners (and a lot of WD-40) all the front outer panels can be swapped over, luckily some of the few bits that won't be rotten on a Rangie basket case. Interior bolts in too.

Instant Range Rover High Top 7 seater.

Not sure about the P38 Mondials and spacers on this one, but you get the idea.

Right, I'll have it please (assuming it's still available).  Will still keep an eye out for the right Range Rover, but this'll certainly tide us over happily.  Will pm you re collection.

Yay!
