sloth Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 I RUN A PASSAT 3B WIT DIS ENGIN. IT R TEH GOODZ BRUH. In all seriousness, it will soldier on for eons, just make sure the cambelts done (diy mayte) and the rocker covers arnt leaking like hell. muchos cheap motoring.
Cavcraft Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 They sound remarkably like the bloody awful Passat B5, what with water ingress problems etc. Anyhow, it's about ready to collect so I'm going to give my lad an hour more in bed and see if he'll run me up, failing that it'll be my trusty cycle to get me there.
MarvinsMom Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 just bung it into the breakers, with a profit for yourself. if there is someone daft enough to pay good money for even more uncomfortable seats and a daft telly box-screen thing then let them do so! then there will be one less road warrior panzer waffen ss gruppen wagon on the roads. i've driven both a4's and a3's and hated them just as much the vw goon and pisshats that they are decended from just horrid. better off scrapped/crushed/burned with fire. MarvinsMom Posted May 3, 2015 Posted May 3, 2015 yeah yeah a profit is a profit, and if it takes it to a scrappers then all the better.
Cavcraft Posted May 3, 2015 Author Posted May 3, 2015 O.M. effing G. Just got back ten minutes ago from collecting this. It's effing great fun to drive, third and fourth gears probably best as it would just keep on pulling like there was no tomorrow. Problems:I forgot he mentioned the ABS problem at low speeds, like it was trying to kick in or something. Still braked & stopped ok, though.Tyres: shagged.Rear n/s seat won't fold down, the stupid turny/clippy thing has broken.Fuel gauge either crap or he lied about it having £7's worth of fuel in it.Clutch pedal highProbably other things. Typical VAG, seats feel like your perched on them rather than sinking in a bit, they seem to all be like that around this era. The poke is something else though, like it was urging you to drive like it like a paper clip sales rep chasing the big one. It's so much fun, in fact, I didn't even notice the (standard) blue dashboard which I normally detest until I got home. So that's your lot, the price was £350 and it's staying £350 as that's what I said from the start, so if anyone wants it please let me know sharpish as it's taking up all of my leaking garage and my cycles are now all over the place. There you go then Billy!! Best chop in your AUDI QUATTRO FOR 350 QUID as it can't measure up to a bloke on the internet's austin Metro! Pillock, John F and Cavcraft 3
stripped fred Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I had a 2001 B5 1.9 PD Avant for 6 years. Totally reliable and dependable transport. It only needed 60k timing belts and regular servicing as well as some suspension bushes. Still on original clutch at 200k. I changed the oil for the proper stuff every 10k. I was really chuffed when it passed the 200k mark as it was the first car I'd taken to that mileage and I had plans to take it to 300k. Then at 201k the engine went pop! Something snapped (bearing?) and within a couple of miles it sounded like it was trying to eat itself. I'd have another though. In hindsight it never quite got up to temperature, 75ish, so I should have changed the thermostat. Maybe it didn't like the cooler running temperature?
MarvinsMom Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 yes it doesn't measure up to a metro and certainly doesn't measure up to a jaguar xjr-6
Vince70 Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Clutch pedal high On my first A4 I thought the pedal was a tad high and the car was a goodun so I had a new clutch fitted and it was still the same it was only later I found out that it seems to be an A4 thing and the later one I bought was the same.
