oh right, yes, now I know where that is.  Could be very interested then as there are things I want there.

I made a new thread in the open forums with all the info needed about the place.

After driving over 500 miles in the 305 the rear end has started creaking on every bump. I can't take it any more...

Posted

I took the 305 out for the day, the rear end is still creaking quite badly...

I went to the old unit.

Does that mean he's now the owner of my FSO?

Anyway I went up to a small graveyard near Peat inn where Andy CMS nearly got arrested...

Unfortunately nobody is ever home whenever I go round. The white Lada would be a good source of parts for mine.

Is it leaking from the accelerator spindle? It's supposed to be quite an easy fix.

Posted

Yeah, that's where it's coming from.

On an unrelated note - can you give me the heads up if/when you move on that Ovlov 300?

It's the spit of my first car - same colour/spec/year etc.

Much obliged.

WTF? You mean I'm not the only one interested in such shite?

I really AM at home round here.

The 360 glt belongs to mrs foad, she isn't interested in selling it at the moment.

The list of jobs needing done on the fleet are starting to build up, The Proton needs the fuel filler neck replaced, the panda has a sticking brake caliper, the 360 has both front calipers sticking intermittently, the 305 needs a seal for the fuel pump and the rear trailing arm bushes doing. The Alto needs a front wheel bearing, The tata needs a lot of bodywork but still runs fine. The Lada needs a shitload of welding before anything else gets done on it..

Might have a pair of serviceable 300 series calipers, if you define serviceable as sitting in an angry Irish man's back garden for 10 years.

Would you like an XUD9 (12 horses more!) with a Bosch pump complete with free* Citroen Xsara for its scrap value?

Perhaps!

Worth a punt at £35, my local motor factors couldn't find any 305 kits listed but managed to find a c15 kit for £67 which shares the same code as the 305 kit listed on ebay...

Now. any clues as where I can get the seals i need to stop the lucas pump leaking?

Posted

Patterson Diesel is within sight of the unit, I don't know how good they are though.

Yeah, they're in the next industrial estate. I was keeping them in mind to pop in and see if they can do anything with it.

Posted

If it's the accelerator spindle they are a standard size o ring, can't remember the exact size I'm afraid but you can just measure the old one and order from simply bearings etc.

I went to Pattersons but they were wanting around £80 to replace the seals. Fuck that, it's nearly half of what I paid for the car...

Found this on another forum so for future reference I'll stick it here...

First put a tray under the vehicle below the pump to catch all the diesel which will come out (I didn't do this !).
Next mark the position of the throttle lever and the cold start lever in relation to the pump top and make note of how the springs fit to these arms. undo the 17mm banjo connection for the fuel return pipe, move this out of the way. remove the 10mm nuts which secure the 2 arms, remove the arms noting how they fit etc. Remove the 4 small torx bolts and take the top off the pump - this is where you'll lose a good amount of fuel. Push the throttle shaft down and out of the lid as you pull the lid off. There are 2 "O" rings on the shaft - replace these with 2 new ones from the repair kit. My old seals broke off they were so hard and brittle. Put it back together (I Know this sounds like Haynes but it is just a straight reverse of taking it apart). Start it up and check for leaks.

I've watched fil do these on a tractor and he had a homemade tool of some kind to stop the shafts pulling out as you lift the top off . Apparantly all the magic escapes if that happens
