TataBobu Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I'm wondering if I should overbid that with a deep-fried Mars bar... oldcars 1
DodgyBastard Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 A deep fried Mars bar could swing it. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Tamworthbay Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 No reasonable offer refused Mud by srblythe, on Flickr Anyone fancy it? What's reasonable? £200? I am guessing double scrap is less than that. Can pay up front but may be a couple of weeks until I can collect. Lacquer Peel 1
Tamworthbay Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 And if you buy the bx you could drive down in the Niva, I can drop you over to the bx and you can drive it home. I would cover the Niva petrol cost. Win win win situation could do that sooner probably as well. Edit: just had a nose on the mot site, one hell of a lot of a welding needed last year. Did you do that yourself or is there a bit still needing doing?
DodgyBastard Posted January 12, 2016 Author Posted January 12, 2016 I did some of the welding but the previous owner did the majority of it along with sorting the electrical issues, lights etc. I've got some photos from underneath the car, it looks decent enough. I'd say £200 was a reasonable offer. I'm not likely to want to drive the niva anywhere, it's shit.
Tamworthbay Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Nice one, I will pm you tomorrow and sort the details.
Tamworthbay Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Due to the distance involved and complications with my work its proved impossible for me to get this home it's a an absolute bargain for someone a d they are cracking cars (why couldn't it have been in Cannock instead of Cowdenbeath! ) good luck with the sale mate, I am sure someone will snap it up.
JohnK Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Does this mean this is still available for £cheap?!
JohnK Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 Done - always fancied a go in a Niva and will possibly tempt me back into my old off roading self. KruJoe and Lacquer Peel 2

DodgyBastard Posted January 16, 2016 Author Posted January 16, 2016 I removed the stickers, front splitter and made an exhaust for it out of odds and ends lying around, it's still loud. I need to remove the yellow tint to the headlights and I'll be happy with it. Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk fotorabia and Skizzer 2
sloth Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 i work for an ex tata dealer. in our back shed there is a shipping container of new parts, and a pick up like yours with 53 kms on it. thats when the engine failed....... Skizzer and DodgyBastard 2
DodgyBastard Posted January 23, 2016 Author Posted January 23, 2016 Lada Hussar by srblythe, on Flickr I decided to keep the Niva in the end, the more I thought about selling it the less sense it made, I didn't need the space, I didn't really need the money and at a later date I might want the engine for my Riva and I'd kick myself for selling the Niva as it's unlikely I'd find a 1.7i engine for anywhere near £200 when the time came... DSC_7802 by srblythe, on Flickr I just ordered over £200 worth of panels for the Riva, to be fair half of the cost was from postage from Russia. I'm looking forward to progressing with it over this year. DSC_7811 by srblythe, on Flickr The Toyota needs a radiator and a thermostat, I have the thermostat but still waiting for the radiator to be posted. I noticed the last time I drove it there was some steam coming from the radiator and the temp was low on the gauge but raised slightly when stopped in traffic. It's a fun car to drive and quite quick too. I still need to remove the yellow tint from the headlights but think it's painted on the inside so might be slightly more difficult to remove. DSC_7780 by srblythe, on Flickr I finished welding up the A pillar on the 305, it isn't pretty but it does the job. I found the reason for the passenger floor being wet, there's a drainage hole under the wiper motor splash guard which routes through a rubber pipe into the car and out through the inner wing, the part where the rubber pipe attaches has rotted and is letting in water, now the passenger floor is like a swimming pool... Tata Loadbeta by srblythe, on Flickr The Tata has gotten slightly crustier than when I sold it in September, yesterday a bit of the bumper fell off. I'm looking at some serious rolls of mig wire to get it through its mot in April. DSC_7771 by srblythe, on Flickr I hadn't started the Alto since it ran out of Mot in November, it started with a jump from a bigger battery. I took it in for an mot yesterday and it passed with an advisory for rust on an inner wheel arch and slight play in the steering rack, I've travelled around 2k miles in it since buying it last year, had a new clutch and wheel bearing fitted and that's all it's needed so far. Warp Speed by srblythe, on Flickr Suzuki Alto FX by srblythe, on Flickr Suzuki Alto FX by srblythe, on Flickr I took it for a run down the coast and ended up in St Abbs, it's still great fun to drive and economical. DSC_7769 by srblythe, on Flickr I've been stockpiling parts for the other 305, so far I have front shocks, top mounts, brake discs, trailing arm bush rebuild kit and WilsonWilson has kindly sent me a box full of service parts and rear shocks which I'm hoping to get fitted over the next couple of months. Think that's me up to date with all my car shit... Lacquer Peel, Coprolalia, Luckythirteen and 9 others 12
DodgyBastard Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 The corolla's alternator has shat itself, I connected a fully charged battery to the car and could smell electrical burning then all of a sudden the alternator started smoking. Another thing to add to the list for this money pit... Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk
Skizzer Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 This is a thread of legend. But the snow-covered car identification game is way too easy, Bucketeer's was much betterer. DodgyBastard 1
Luckythirteen Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Was the engine running when the smoke happened? If not, you might get away with just the diode pack?
DodgyBastard Posted January 25, 2016 Author Posted January 25, 2016 Was the engine running when the smoke happened? If not, you might get away with just the diode pack? It wasn't running, the key wasn't even in the ignition. It's in the back of the 240 and reeks of electrical burning. I'm just about to go along to my local auto electrician to see what the script is, The cheapest replacement I've seen so far is £75. The temptation to buy Nisfan's Carina is certainly there as it has a lot of parts that I may need. Luckythirteen 1
Luckythirteen Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Good luck then. Hope it just needs a clean out and new diodes, that would be the cheaper option.I recall going along with Pa to dig an old tractor out of a barn, and something similar happened when we jump started it. He'd checked everything was turning freely, so the alternator wasn't seized, but it didn't like being force fed voltage much!
derskine Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Sure the alternator output wire isn't shorting on the body somewhere?Easy enough to check... multimeter on ohms between alternator wire spade and earth.

I'll check that before the new one is fitted, last thing I want is to melt another one.
Alan_Green Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Where are the wheels on the Corolla from? Think I had those on a 323 back in the day. Bought them from a random roadside "Vulcanizer". No idea where they came from. loserone 1

Alan_Green Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Just google-imaged "ATS Classics" and they look pretty damn good in black & silver: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Ats+Classics&rlz=1C1LENP_enGB542GB544&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjM5L2bx8jKAhUD_XIKHfK7BFwQ_AUIBygB&biw=1093&bih=516
Jimmycrackcorn Posted January 28, 2016 Posted January 28, 2016 If you're keeping the Niva for the engine will you be punting the rest on at a later date? Might be a bit more safer and fun to put my Supercharged Pinto in rather than a Reliant Robin. oldcars 1
KruJoe Posted January 29, 2016 Posted January 29, 2016 Sounds ideal for an XUD conversion. You'd need some bits from France though, Niva XUDs were available new there. Lacquer Peel 1
