Yesterday I swapped the Stanza for the Carlton with John K.

It's not running too well at the moment, it wasn't confidence inspiring driving up the road, occasionally backfiring, hesitating at low revs and cutting out. We me at a halfway point at a service station in Wooler so the 2 hour drive up the road with poor running and the brake warning light flickering made for a tense drive home.

Just as I got to the Edinburgh bypass the car cut out and died on the hard shoulder.

The bottom fuel hose going to the pump had come off, I managed to push it back home and limp it up the road.

Today I had a better look at the fuel hoses, the top one had perished and was leaking fuel next to the distributor cap so I got some new hoses fitted.

Initially it seemed to be running OK but after taking the car up to the high street it started cutting out again. I limped it back along the road. It seems that keeping the revs high it can go all right but under load on low revs it just wants to die...

It's not a bad looker in the daylight.

Today I had quite a productive day with the other cars.

The red C15 had recently broken a spring.

I spent the day with Mrs Foad swapping the strut over from the white c15.

All went reasonably smoothly and now the van handles a lot better.

We spent a fair bit of time trying to find and remove the blower motor on the white van to swap into the red van. We got there in the end after taking apart lots of dash that didn't actually need removed. 4 10mm bolts on the drivers side are all that's needed to remove the motor...

Some of the parts came for the 190e.

I fitted a pair of new rear shocks, handling has improved greatly. I'm still awaiting the front discs and middle exhaust section but hopefully they arrive soon and I can get it in for a retest by the end of next week.

Tomorrow I plan on changing the blower motor on the c15 and fitting the bx front seats. I might do a bit of welding on the Alto and get that in for a test too...

Wow you work quick - drove the brown Carlton home (with breakdowns) and finished painting it red before daylight!

Oh, you were joking about binning the Carlton wheel trims, right? I think those are the originals.

They sure are. I'd be keeping them nice and safe...

The hubcaps are safely stored in the boot, I think it looks shit with them. I won't be putting them back on because a bunch of people on the Internet don't agree with me.

Jeepers. If you don't like strongly-held opinions, you may not get on with the internet. Glad to hear the hubcaps are not actually binned though.

I can assure you, i am nowhere near as rude and nasty as you when it comes to posting opitions on the intenet. Maybe you should look closer to home when calling people a nasty piece of work.

I can assure everyone that having met both Trig and Foad in actual real life, neither of them are rude or nasty people.

Let's just play nice.

I like the 'steelie' look too, which is why I have four W124 alloys cluttering up the garage.  Glad you've kept the original trims, though - I think the concern was that your use of the word 'binned' was not figurative!  ;)

I was kidding, I was just going to tell you to fuck off but thought I'd say something you'd already said about me instead.

Having met you in person, I know that you are a nice easy going guy.

Now you don't see me going onto your threads giving negative opinions of things I don't like. I never asked for your opinion so please do one.

I don't recall ever calling you a nasty piece of work, it's not something i'd say but the fact is it looks shit without the hubcaps fitted, what reaction do you expect when you tell people that you've binned the original ones?.

You clearly write stuff on here and facebook to provoke a reaction which i find odd and a bit childish but thats up to you, but if you wrote negative things about my cars I'd just take it on board, there no point in throwing a my rattle over it.

Let's all just step away, shall we?  If you feel the need to continue this, do it by PM - otherwise the thread's heading in one direction only.

And none of us want that, do we...?  ;)

Fine, you've said your piece, I'll just get back to the cars.

I enjoy your car related activities but you can't get away with being brusque online but thin skinned when it comes back to you.

The Carlton is cool, hubcaps or not.

I hate hubcaps too tbh.

Do Carltons have 4 stud hubs? It'd look cool on Mk3 Astra 15" steelies, the stylised ones.

I certainly don't want to see a picture of One Direction. I don't know what they look or sound like and I'd like to keep it that way.

5 stud, same as the Senny chassis. Can't recall the PCD. Later VXs with 5 stud hubs had some interestingly styled steelies. The Carlton is a good canvas to work with though.

Each to their own...

The wheels are 4 stud so presumably other 4 stud vauxhall wheels will fit but the offset may be too high if taken from a front wheel drive car.

Then it really would look shit, hubcaps or not.
