DVLA launches Thinking About Buying A Car Tax

ANYONE considering getting a car now has to pay the DVLA from the moment it crosses their mind.

The vehicle agency, which recently made car tax non-transferable because it can, has warned that even non-driving Britons could be liable for car thought crime.

Teaching assistant Norman Steele said: “I got a moody letter and a £1200 fine dating back to when I bookmarked a Fiat Punto on a car website last April.

“I explained that I had gone off the idea since then but the monotone-voiced man at the DVLA said they had looked into my subconscious and on some level I still wanted it.

“I said that was nonsense but he replied ‘we have access to everything in your brain, including what you did in Prague in 2004’. I can’t say what that is but it’s bad shit that nobody knows about.â€Â

A DVLA spokesman said: “If you’re thinking about, or thinking you might start thinking about, anything car-related then you need to give us money.

“Otherwise you will go to a special prison full of large bold rats that will get on your face.â€Â

I made it up and printed it here http://www.discybusiness.co.uk/It should be purple (the sequence is red, blue, purple) but they only do red, blue and yellow. It looks a bit gash close up but it'll do in the absence of the one I've paid £230 for.

I would struggle not to put lots and lots of swear words into one of those, for when Her Maj's bloke stoops to read it.

They can't clamp cars with no wheels on private land. Nor can they lift them if it's an obstructed lift. Nor can they leave without me jumping all over them. They can't even get out of their poxy camera van unnoticed,in the pissing rain at 3am to photograph my grubby black/silver Land Rover number plate because their ANPR system doesn't recognise it.... I went out wearing my dressing gown to ask why the operative was skulking around after midnight. I was told to mind my own business. Bearing in mind I was stood between him and his van, I then explained how him clambering between my vehicles at 3am looked a lot like someone trying to steal one of them, and my business was to keep my property safe at all costs, that he realised he wasn't winning. I didn't let him get to his van until he showed me official ID. I also took a photograph of HIS van and number plate, to which he told me that was illegal.... so I asked why then, if it was illegal, he could photograph mine. Strangely, he couldn't answer that one, and they have NEVER been back to my knowledge.  All because I had 3 vehicles registered on SORN. They were trying to catch me out by parking one on the street, untaxed. Yeah. Tax exempt vehicles that are in a thousand pieces each.... silly bastards.

They felt it was reasonable to send a DVLA operative onto your land after midnight to photograph your vehicles?

That is such value for money out of the system. The temptation to ring the Police & report a suspected car theft in progress would have overwhelmed me, mate

Armed car theft = they'd turn up pronto, rather than a week later.

Struggling to believe this is what the British state has come to, DVLA snooping round your premises in the small hours hoping to trip you up. Unbelievable. Is there any light at the end of the tunnel?

I'd love to say the DVLA will be lenient as soon as we complain to our MPs because they serve us and not themselves but it's not likely is it?

As soon as they start individual road pricing I'm building an airship.

This has made me inordinately angry. I hope to hell nothing similar happens on my property because I will likely die in prison. Fucking Bastards.

This is amazing, who did this guy work for?   The DVLA?   Do they go around looking for SORNed cars at night routinely?   I don't usually agree with Junkman but maybe he has a point...

Can we see the photograph of his van & reg plate???? I want to know what sort of shitehawk operation they are.

Unfortunately, the phone I used to take the pic died shortly after, and I hadn't managed to get the image off it. I saw the van afterwards in daylight, in Morrisons car park, with the chap sat behind the wheel.. I pulled in front of it, gave him a toot and a wave, and a big cheesy grin and thumbs up. He tried to ignore me... It was a white Mercedes Vito, with a roof rack, which had the cameras pointing from the corners. Not seen it around for a while. All stickered up as a DVLA monitoring van or summat like.

That's the roof rack and cameras. Not sure any of his clamps would have worked on my huge knobblies and deep rims though! Also, considering the others have no wheels or axles, watching them attempt clamping them would be hilarious.

Judging by the NCP logo, that strikes me as a private firm doing it under contract from doovla, they don't like employing people if they don't have to.

I think what your intruder was doing was probably highly illegal and the twat concerned probably though he could bluster his way out of any consequences. Would have been amusing if you had owned a large dog which tried to do some clamping on its own - like its jaw on twats leg.

I think calling the cops would have been spot on, suspicions of attempted theft. If I went into anyone's garden after midnight and started poking around they'd have a chopper and the fugging interceptors out, who's to say he's not got a nice sideline in stealing classic cars (which are all on his nice SORN list) to order?

That story reminds me of lying in bed watching some shite (the hit man and her) and seeing torches outside, it was PC plod on our drive checking both my cars tyres haha

Luckily I'm a light sleeper, but on that occasion I had been struggling with toothache, so was actually downstairs medicating myself and alert enough to hear a vehicle turn up very quickly into my tiny Street. Open front door and out like a bullet. Stand like a Superhero, balls hanging out etc.... I think I scared him. He appeared to be of African descent, going by his accent and skin tones.
