Neat MK1 Corty on Wolfies 8) remember something similar on every street in the late 70's

Is that coupe behind the Triumph 2000 a... damn, tip of my tongue... hold on... Buckley?

Posted

It ain't a Fairthorpe with those fins, but it may be a:

Turner MkII or 950S

Posted Image

Posted Image

Falcon

Posted Image

Alexis and Ashley made some specials like this, but not with those fins to my knowledge

Berkeley is the best guess for the rounded shape, but tales of a hard-top for these are thin on the ground

Posted Image

It does look bloody familiar but looking at other photos of what I suspect it is reveals a detail that procludes it. The 2000 was quite a large car, and the sportster on tow doesn't look small enough to be one of these British babies.

No matter how much I wanted it to be one, it isn't. One of my all-time "must own before dying" treasures, the Sprintzel Sebring Sprite Coupe

only 6 made apparently. But not shite, so here is a Berkeley that can be classified as such:

intit great? :)

After some eyewrecking staring at the tiny pic Torsten posted I've dedcided that the one I posted IS that exact car! (Falcon Caribbean)

Posted

Well, Tom's suggestions were a big step in the right direction! Funny how finding the exact car makes you feel like a proper Poirot

Michiel - totally agree with your findings. Nice one Sir.You can be Johnnie Wark, I'll be Arnie Muhren. (That'll be soccer-shite)

Feast on this cack, driven by some lovely people who wouldn't let the learner pass therefore helping all the cars behind who had pulled over to let them reverse enjoy the sunshine while they called the police!!! I suggested the police might ask them to do the same as everyone else had just done and let the learner pass

I've been a bit slack but here's a few UK spots to start with

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Check out the Elswick (?) behind the Mini that's been there for YEARS!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted

Then I had to go to Paris to pick up this:

Posted Image

and while I was there I spotted these in Romainville:

Posted Image

Posted Image

bike shite in the centre of Paris, a beautiful VeloSolex 3800

Posted Image

and then this piece of shite on the Perifique, fcuked in every panel with a blown exhaust, it was so bad I pulled back after overtaking it to take a photo!

Posted Image

Then keeping the British end up the Scottish Sun double decker belching blue smoke, you could smell it before you could see it! It was making a terrible racket too, the driver was suitably embarassed!

Posted Image

Posted

Tell us about the bike ... (and the Elswick -he said quietly)

Posted

this batch was after a 2500 mile trip around France and into Italy starting with bike shite in Nice

a gorgeous Honda CB350 Four

Posted Image

and a lovely Honda Dax 70

Posted Image

then normal shite

Posted Image

an H!

Posted Image

Then in Italy I spotted this wee truck, is it a Piaggio?

Posted Image

Then on my way from Nice to Cannes I stopped at this Museum I've passed loads of times

Posted Image

worth a visit for this Alpine based on the Renault 4CV

Posted Image

and this mock up of an early French garage with two Salmsons and a Terrot motorcycle

Posted Image

less than 100 yds away was this Simca truck

Posted Image

then I spotted some scrap yards so had a wander with my camera

a 21 Ambulance on its final journey

Posted Image

a Hanomag

Posted Image

A Saviem

Posted Image

A Renault 15/17?

Posted Image

Posted Image

you can't really tell but this is a 204 Convertible

Posted Image

an H!

Posted Image

crashed Lancia

Posted Image

a Pug van, GS, CX with Minis and Metros hidden

Posted Image

Then I found this abandoned scrap yard

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Off to Cannes where I found this

Posted Image

the bike is a Kawasaki W650 and the Elswick is a Mini in different clothes prototyped as a Mini replacement and then produced as an Invalid Carriage for the cool, it's in Hackney just off Kingsland Road

Superb stuff Torsten!France a much sparser country with generally lower land values, perhaps this is why there's a better rate of old junk just lying around doing nothing :)

Posted

I love France, you don't have to try!By the way, the Diahatsu Domino 2 on page 9 is now mine!

Wow. What a selection. I think the white microcar is an early-mid '80s Aixam - probably with a single cyinder Lombardini diesel as I think they'd stopped using Mobylette engines by then ( ). Don't quote me on that though as although the shape says Aixam the ones I've seen have had different rear lights to that one. They never imported the 324 and 524 diesels to the UK, for the simple reason that they were crap and would therefore have clashed horribly with BMW's yuppie image. In France the marque image is not quite the same (although they are still a class above the Fords and Opels) and the French have a bit of a fetish about diesels, but even then they didn't sell particularly well there, because of the general crapness of the engine. For a time they did a 324D, without a turbo, which has to be the slowest BMW since the Isetta.

Awesome pics! Agree that France is great - unlike Munich which I visited earlier this week and spotted very little, 'cept for loads more Frogface Scorpios than you might credit in such a wealthy area, and a brace of Trabants. No pics unless I can work out how to get them off my work mobile

And the french aren't as gulible as the UK when it comes to 'being green'.Most of them are far 'greener' than our enviro-mentalists already.

I agree, I was there thurs/fri/sat. But if you know the right places... (I lived there for a year) 8)

I somehow doubt that! My Dad once had a 1977 E12 518 automatic. It had 90 bhp, felt like it weighed as much as a Tiger tank and could hardly drag itself down the road. If you clogged it from a standstill in 'D' it would do nothing for about a second before lumbering off at walking pace, which made roundabouts rather worrying. Perversely, it was also equipped with the most powerful brakes of any car I've ever driven!

Well the 324D had about 74bhp if memory serves, but an E30 is lighter than an E12 and they all had 5-speed manual boxes, so your dad's 518 may have it beat for dog slowness...

Super update, a Panhard 24 BT or CT, wow!
