New Uniroyals probably cheaper than used tyres.

Some tyres are available in XL flavour. I think this means they are stronger/stiffer than the standard tyre.

Unless they are actually LARGER than the standard tyre, in which case buy some 145/70/13 tyres for £20 each and specify the XL version - sorted!

I'll second that. I have rainexpert 3's on my 406 and they are great. I don't tend to drive too fast nowadays but i can't get them to slide even when pushed hard round a roundabout in the wet, for test purposes only of course!

4 x rainexpert3 fitted and not a drop of rain in sight- typical

I drive the 800 like Richard Bucket on Marijuana so they'll probably crumble long before they wear away.

Have these on my Leon - agree they are fantastic at dealing with standing water. Quiet too.

My only tiny concern is they are nice and soft which means they probably won't last too well, but surely the point of tyres is to be soft and grippy?

Got 4 Rainsport 3s fitted on the Ibiza on Thursday, car feels infinitely better in the dry, and I've yet to try it in the wet. Would gladly recommend these to anyone.

What I wouldn't recommend is the F1 Autocentre in Wisbech. My car was the first in their garage at 8:25ish, and I didn't get it back until 10:20ish. That, plus the hour drive there and hour drive back to Boston makes me wish I bought some Toyos at the local Mr Tyre for £65 a corner. Also, they charged me £48(!) to track the front wheels. I only said yes because the wheels were nowhere near where they should be.

Thread resurrection.  Following Alexg saying he'd got some of these for his R75 at a good price from F1 Autocentres, I decided to check their prices for my brother's BMW 323Ci which I have custody of (again) while the keycard for my Espace is off for repair.  As acquired 18 months or so back the car came with 18" replica M-Sport wheels (no serial numbers, not staggered, bloody heavy) shod in a variety of ditchfinders.  These were quickly jettisoned in favour of the original 16" Style 45s.  With the BMW modification market being what it is, the net cost to change was £60 in our favour, but the tyres on the 'new' wheels were old (albeit Michelins) with lots of cracking on the sidewall.  Not good.

The car doesn't do a lot of miles (probably 5k per year tops) but is driven in all weathers in a spirited manner as a 'high days and holidays' car, so the Uniroyals appeal with A-rated wet grip.  I've been watching the prices on Tyreleader and tyrereviews.co.uk and the Rainsports are usually around £40-45 each, plus fitting at £10 or so a corner.  Therefore I was pleased to see that F1 will do them fitted at £187.60 for the four (205/55R16 91V), with a 5% discount code I found online.

Bearing in mind LessThanEqual's post above I won't be taking advantage of any of their 'free' checks - the tracking feels pretty good to me but I will get it done at a local tyres-only place with a good rep for £25 at a later point if we notice any unusual wear.

+1 on F1 Autocentre. By far the cheapest I've found for tyres. When I bought 2 for the Astra, I avoided the free check. They did however find a broken spring on the side of one of the wheels they removed.

They did stress how dangerous it was to drive like it (it'd only broken at the bottom FFS), and I need to change it asap. But once I said that I was going to go to ECP and do it myself, they stopped trying to try and get them to do it.

Shameless plug - I have a set of 4 Continentals 205/55 16 for £50 collected - they come with free alloys too. Plenty of tread, well in date hardly used and stored in dry.

Yeah, nice one LessThatEqual, I'm glad I just read that too. I've asked for a 'free' tracking check, but if they're going to sting me for £48 for any correction I'd rather take it elsewhere. It's booked in Wednesday so I'll cancel that part. I can take it into the tyre place we use at work, it's next door and will cost about Â£20. Incidentally I'd already called them reference the X4 Avon ZV7 I'd ordered for £167, and at trade the best they could offer was £190! So I think I've done OK.

ordered 2 rainexpert3 today, total price of 110 quid. I've opted to have them delivered to me direct as I can get them fitted for a tenner a tyre, which is okay I reckon.

was disappointed I couldn't get the Westlake RP28, these were a serious good tyre and now my 4 tyres wont match. but hey oh..
