NorfolkNWeigh Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Just had a call from a friend of Mrs N,her Punto ( Grande?) won't start and she assumes immobiliser problem. Although I do t know why, thinking about it,as I write this.Any simple cures,I've suggested get out lock/ unlock and borrow a spanner and disconnect battery for a few mins.Chances are if it won't start I'm going to have to go to Gillingham( about 80/90 miles away) and bring her back or Mrs N is going to let her use her RAC card and I know this will end in a disaster/ fraud scenario.
twosmoke300 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Immob faults are pretty rare tbh , crank sensors quite common tho . Does the rev counter move when she cranks it ?
NorfolkNWeigh Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Don't know, never seen the piece of shit . Apparently it's blue! And 58 plate. I Think she going to leave it there and get a lift,so I'm off the hook. Thanks for trying.
Bren Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Sorted. NorfolkNWeigh, brickwall and Richard 3
twosmoke300 Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Just got my wife a grande a few months back . Seems a nice enough wee thing . The old 1.2 fire engine is sweet , if a little gutless these days
NorfolkNWeigh Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Yes, we've got a 1.2 500 and that struggles a bit on the motorway. The 500 and Grande probably weigh about the same I suppose.
Cavcraft Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 My daughters was a 1.2. Bit gutless, but actually quite a nice little car. Without wishing to worry you, it's not thrown a belt (or chain?) has it and the engine is spinning away merrily as it's om-nom-nom-ing the valves?
NorfolkNWeigh Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Bren's solution is looking more and more appealing.
HH-R Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Does the immobiliser fault light come on? Looks like a car with a padlock in it.
brickwall Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 When imobs go wonky they are an absolute headf**k. The only success I've had is just keep disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and hope. You always have hope. Best of luck.
Pillock Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Yeah, apparently I need to keep disconnecting the battery on my Astra to stop it chucking up immobiliser faults. After 3 months. My solution is to park it at the dealer and abuse one of their demonstrators for a day every time it happens.
Matt Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 I mirror what Bren suggested. My dad has one and I had the displeasure of having to drive it for nearly a year. Never again.
Noel Tidybeard Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 try treating it as if it was flooded vv carb- some moderns have a sort of FTP clause in the ecu lol
NorfolkNWeigh Posted February 16, 2015 Author Posted February 16, 2015 It was the key. She went back for it today with spare key and it fired up straight away. Tried the other key when home and it didn't want to know.
