Stolen Defender, last seen Cheshire

I know it's not Shite, but hey...

Local animal rescue centre in N Wales had their Defender nicked by some utter pustule on the arse of humanity. They're a small, overworked rural outfit with very few resources and this has hit them pretty hard. It was flagged by an ANPRC in Helsby, Cheshire at midnight on Tuesday, but nothing's been heard since. Probably wearing different plates and tags by now, but you never know.

Bastards.  I hope Karma gets them, and soon.

A great opportunity for some superb PR for a LR dealer or specialist. May the lowlife suffer all theuy're due.

it now has the number D701SWL - shame, though, it has been nicked but all old Defenders should be fitted with trackers.

The national trust probably bought it off a pickey and are now using it in Formby.

Scummy twats. I hope they get it back but alas I fear it will join the ranks of the disappeared.

That sucks balls.

These things are way too easy to steal and way too easy to ring....there are thousands of rotten ones lying in farm yards around the country ready to donate their VIN plates and reg numbers, and thats it vanished.

If you look through ebay, I would bet there will be at least a couple sporting something like C-reg plates, but have been "modernised" with newer interiors and 300TDi engines.

I wouldnt own another. I couldnt afford one for a start - I dont get why they are apparently so valuable when they are basically less comfortable than Discoveries yet cost five times more.

I'm sure it's entirely unrelated, but there are quite a few travellers camps around Helsby.

I'm sure a fair number get used for ram raids, joy riding, broken for parts, whatever but far far more just vanish into thin air. When I was on the LR mags there was a story of two artics getting stopped at Dover, jam packed with nicked Defenders and plant bound for somewhere in europe. It was a well organised gang who'd fucked up by lifting a mini digger with a tracker on it as well - the wagon drivers pleaded to be locked up as they reckoned a lot worse was waiting for them if they went home without the goods!! Their technique was to leave the lorries in laybys with a goon in the back ready to drop the ramps out when their catch appeared.

I'm convinced a lot leave the country. It's funny how many "updated" RHD Defenders you see for sale overseas...

It's not so bad now the feds have gone all hardcore on originality but I have seen first hand how crazed some US and Canadian LR fans are... they don't give a monkeys where their new toys come from. As above Td5s and 300Tdis that have never had a spanner laid on the body panels passed off as mid eighties. Twats!!

Anyway back to the original post that's a real shit and if I wasn't several hundred miles away I'd happily loan myself and a tow motor free of charge.

i know of a farmer in Grimsby who a had a big expensive tractor stolen. it turned up 18 months later in Iraq working for a road repairing company.

I also had an XR2 nicked that turned up a month later with different locks and number plates and was cleaner than when it was nicked. ( I had to break the ignition barrel to get it home from the compound!

The VIN plate was missing and when the coppers took all the details I told them this. `Whats a VIN plate?` was her reply.......
