I've had a number of old car brochure knocking around and I've decided to scan a few of them just for personally reference and that I'm really sad, I thought I'd whack a few of them up here in this thread.

I'll start with this Vauxhall one dated from October 1980.

You were out of luck if you wanted a Chevette but didn't like plaid patterns on your seats.

Interesting that the Cav on page 1 at Millbrook is a left hooker. IIRC 1300 Cavs were sold in the Benelux countries.

I don't remember ever seeing a Chevalier LS - never knew LS existed as a Voksal* trim level.

Those Astras were mint. The 1300 was a proper revvy little goer, great car to drive as well. Odd that they're worth 58 pence when a Mark 11 1300 Escort Plopular is worth £7995.

*Could be onto something here. Voksal sounds Germanic, thus implying FAILSAFE OMG RELIABILITY.

Voksaul?

Volkshorl even?

LS was a parts bin special for the last model year of the Mk1, I've never seen one either. Also, I wonder what the story was with certain colours not being available on the 2 door saloon Cav that were available on the 4 door.

1300 Cavs were available here, perhaps just not right at the end. Thanks Trigger - great stuff. I've been seeking a 1982 or maybe 1983 Vauxhall brochure - lots of 'lifestyle' shots of people with hilarious hair.

That 3 door Chevette estate is very nice, never seem one in the wild before.

I've got the Autumn 1980 brochure. I didn't realise there was any Vauxhall love on here, but now I know there is, rush over to my winter sale thread for details.

Don't Chevette interiors look MISERABLE. Even the poshed-up tartan one looks cold and uncomfortable and unwelcoming to me. I know theyre not a flippin Jaguar and admittedly they were more solid than a Marina interior but still, they look SHITE.

I've never driven a Chevette any distance though, i would like to, I suspect they are a pretty good steer.

They are. I like them a great deal to be honest. Lovely, light controls and an honest feel to them. The interiors are obviously better when some lurid colour. Vauxhall went in for some very colourful plastics around this time.

For a while it was almost like they just left the windows open and painted the car last. Blue Cavalier sir? OK, let me just paint the seats, dashboard and carpets blue too.

Voksal - òþú÷ðû - is Russian for 'train station'.

My dad had a 'W' reg Cavalier L in hazel brown, with a beige upholstery, obvs.

It was also a 1300. He bought it new and said the only colours on offer were brown or yellow. Dismal.

In 1984, I had a 78 Chevette GLS. It was white with a blue vinyl roof and blue velour upholstery.

It was my first car.

The steering, handling and gearshift are exceptional. One of the best small cars ever made to drive - basically Mk 1 Mexico dynamics in a 50p hatchback. One of Vauxhall's biggest gaffes was that they spent all that money rallying the Chevette with a lot of success yet never made an accessible quick version - the HS2300 was too much money, too thirsty and maintenance intensive. What they should have built was a 2000 Cavalier engined version with the HS suspension, spoilers, alloys, 5 speed box and LSD. That would have been a tremendous package. Alas..........

I don't see the Coupe version there - I'm sure they made one.....? Or were they just Mantas?

Posted

They did, but dropped it for the hatch in '78.

BOOOOOO!!!

I blame Thatcher. There's not enough red velour in the world.

Here's some rubbish old Honda Civic brochure from 1984, I always thought the 3 door models looked pretty ugly from behind, The CRX would get it though..

This brochure was in with the paperwork when i bought my Civic, I guess they were looking at upgrading at some point. You'll need to click on the photo to make them bigger.
