Road trip decisions?

I'm planning to do this in June later in the year, and have a difficult decision to make!

I've done a 3 similar trips before which have all been great fun, but have always taken the BX. Which is understandable, as it's a Citroen-based group, and it's going around France. It would be the ideal car from my fleet for this one too, as it's comfortable, reliable, reasonably quick, and also economical. Plenty of space in the back to sleep in, and ice-cold AC.will be a big bonus in the South of France in summer.

So why then am I tempted to take a thirsty, low-geared car which has only done 1000 miles (with one recovery) since I shoehorned a RV8 engine in up against the bulkhead, instead? Even a warm day in this country cooks my lower body while the top half is buffeted by the blast from the open window. No chance of getting spares quickly, and less than ideal for kipping in. Plus I'm nowhere near the stage at which I'm confident of completing every journey. But I can just see myself crusting down a narrow French street in that gorgeous sunset glow, listening to the exhaust echo from the buildings...so much more pleasing to the ear than an XUD clatter!

Sounds like a plan with no flaws at all and cannot possibly take any unexpected turns. Will also be fantastic. Go for it,you know it inside out.

I have to say that probably makes a lot of sense. Especially now I am not drunk.

I know that it'd probably be a lot of fun, regardless of what vehicle I was driving - and it's difficult to stay calm & relaxed if I'm roastingly hot! Looking at the likely cost just for fuel though, makes me wonder about doing it at all...works out as £450 for the BX or £750 for the Stellar!

30 year old stellar with RV8 shoehorned in at home.

Fuel prices are dropping all the time. Go for the V8. You only live once and I'm sure it will be a memorable* trip.

Tricky call. I remember being staggered at the difference in fuel cost when we took an H van to Sweden. Fortunately, we were reasonably wealthy back then but it certainly adds up. Worst thing was I spent much of the trip wishing we'd taken the 2CV instead...

XUD clatter vs a V8 purr.  Let me think about that one for a minute!

Ive got BXAgone stickers on my trailer still, I dont think 2007 is considered a classic, but I have to say I'd rather take that. Personally Mat I think you are stark raving bonkers to take the V8 above a nice HP sprung Diesel Cit, even a Xantia or C5 estate if not a BX.

This however is not a character flaw - carry on and report back with pictures please.

It has to be said, we're not talking a run-of-the-mill XUD here really. The thing is quite nippy! Though yes, it doesn't sounds as wuffly-good-time as a V8.

It's certainly nippy enough to be fun, and better handling too on twisty roads...
