Zak Tavria, electric mota

Recommended Posts

I'm on the trail of a defunct Zaz Tavria, with, seemingly, electric drive!

Laid up about 5 yrs ago, I presume cos the batteries died, it's been unused since.

Told its a 1991. Owner is amenable to sale..

So, anyone know anything on these, like what should I look for?

What's its worth - cos I haven't a clue!

Aside from ridiculous low mileage, is a modern electric drive swop feasible? Or a return to petrol engine?

I fancy a Tavria, unsure about leccy, so any knowledge/ advice/ derision welcome!

Ta.

Anyone speak Russian?

At least the batteries look like a big square block rather than being shaped to fit in a space,  should be easier to replace with a load of slightly less knackered car batteries from the scrappers.

I remember this popping up a few years back. Go for it Mr B! Was talking to Ed at the NEC about his, he really isn't enamoured with it! Was doing some tricky welding in a gap near the bulkhead and generally hating it due to poor access. I did try to alleviate him of it. I think they imported 3 RHD ones into the UK to test the water. I think its a poor mans Lada Samara isn't it.

These were everywhere in the Ukraine when I was there a couple of weeks ago which makes sense as its a Ukrainian car.  I lusted after them muchly,    the early ones had these great split rim wheels where the majority of the wheel is a brake drum or hub.

They sold these in France for a while in the early '90s.  They were rather dreadful by all accounts.  They had a 5-speed 'box, with 5th to the right and back, next to 4th.

Probably one of the few '90s cars that can out-shite a Yugo Sana.

Seems it's a 91, UK registered, ( I have the reg and it is on DVLA's database) imported from Switzerland by the current owner around 10 yrs ago. He bought it from a Professor at the University of Umm, who he believes converted it.

He's going to see if he can get some lcharge into it, which will probably dictate price. I think he's happy that I intend it to stay electric, although acknowledge that a petrol swop out may be the answer if it's borked.

Hasn't moved in at least 5 years....

So, what do I offer?

In my eyes, electrickery is easier to work on than petrol - batteries just need to put out the right voltage and that's easy enough to configure, and overhauling a motor is no worse than an alternator.

Just the cost of batteries..... Ouchies.

The ability this forum has in consistantly out-shiting itself is as bewildering as it is utterly brilliant. But then here we are, with an electric Tavria. Outstanding.

Nigel if you do buy this and make it functional, you do realise Autoshite may implode due to the uber epic shiteness? Even the might of the SVM would have to bow in your greatness in Autoshite-ing

The Tavria looks like a Chinese copy of a Lada Samara, how is this possible?  I like that they come in hatchback or hatchback-that-looks-like-saloon, like a down-market Applause.

Since this thread is my first encounter with them, I have absolutely no knowledge to offer.
