Modern car colour names are even more stupid, we have these light pale blue Insignias at work and the colour name is "flip chip" for fuck sake get a grip.

My neighbour had a dark blue 05 mk2 Focuys estrate when they were new, dark blue, its official name was "jeans"

Some other stupid ones I've heard on modern cars are Ford "avalon" "vision blue" Vauxhall "digital green" "misty morning" "carbon flash" VW "reflex silver" and my own car is "extreme blue" fuck knows what exactly is extreme about it.

Vauxhall.... I tested a 3 year old Insigina. The actual colour name is Silver Lake. Ah, you mean Grey. So it was described as Grey on the certificate. I parked it up, handed the paperwork to the desk staff..... cue the biggest tantrum you ever saw, along the lines of 20 minutes of  "It doesn't say Silver" Yes, that's because it's grey. Coincidentally it was parked next to a real Silver one. The difference was obvious. I stood my ground, because I don't work with names of colours, I have to describe the actual colour. After all, if it was being looked for, we wouldn't want the Police to miss it on a technicality, would we? Am I a miserable jobsworth bastard? My boss asked someone else to do a replacement cert. They also declined!!!

A few years back Land Rover brought out a new grey, Stornoway Grey.

This upset some rentamouth politician from the Isles who got himself all over the papers saying it would harm the tourism etc and suggesting "Silvery Stornoway Sunshine" or some such pish. I thought that it wasn't nearly dark enough nor foreboding enough to be named after a grey day up there.

Needless to say LR told him to do one and he hasn't been heard of since.

Wonder what the relevant residents associations would have made of Grampian Grey or Dorchester Grey, then?   My favourite unofficial colour name was that given to the particularly unsavoury sort of bile coloured 1980s W123s - Dog Dick Pink....

What about the stupid names of colours Vauxhall Adams have? Saturday White Fever and all that shite.

Belize is in central America, it shares a border with Honduras. Which your truly spent 6 months guarding in 1994.

Another tangent, so another apology.  About 8 years ago, the Army ordered some new sniper rifles for Afghan. The manufacturer was asked to provide a colour that would be more suitable to the local terrain.

We got our heads together & came up with a decent enough colour which we called BPB

anyway, fast forward a few months and the rifle is issued and doing it's thing as required. And eventually someone asks what BPB stands for?

My GPz 900 was "Firecracker Red". A great name for a colour, I think.

This is a Dodge Colt.  I suspect it is painted in a colour called Prairie Wind.

Took me bloody ages to find an example that even looks possible.  They painted the Plymouth Cricket the same colour.

All car paint colour names?? Those for the Leyland P76 must rank as some of the most mental ever.

Don't be shy, tell all with photographs.

Hairy Lime

Bold as Brass

Oh Fudge

Peel Me A Grape

Plum Loco

Now, if we can just have lots of pictures of P76s to illustrate the above I believe we shall all be content.

^^^ Are these not the coolest things Leyland ever produced this side of the SD1?

The needle on my WANT-o-meter has just fallen off looking at that orange one.
