Simcat Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 By way of a change (therapy) I've recently been servicing a Talbot with ABSOLUTELY NO RUST WHATSOEVER. Garaged, old dear owner, and 10,000 miles explains everything... worldofceri, RayMK, chodweaver and 23 others 26
Simcat Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Talbot had great hopes for the Solara when launched in 1980, considering it is just a chopped up Alpine with 3 inches added to the tail, the result was quite pleasing... Sales however were not - despite being Coventry built, company fleet managers stuck with what they knew...
vulgalour Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 That's incredible and very stylish in its own way. It's a shame they never made an estate for the same range, I imagine they would have been eminently practical until the rust got hold. Simcat and Shep Shepherd 2
Shep Shepherd Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 The progress on the LE's bodywork is astounding. No other word suffices.
Shep Shepherd Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 That's incredible and very stylish in its own way. It's a shame they never made an estate for the same range, I imagine they would have been eminently practical until the rust got hold. Heuliez sketched an estate car/break version of the Alpine/1310/1510, but it never got to the prototype stage, most likely due to Chrysler Europe's dire financial situation.
Simcat Posted August 24, 2016 Posted August 24, 2016 A progress update on the red car - New sill and front jacking point now on, rear floor repaired. Good used doors fitted, and used wing about to go on, will probably paint this side before tacking the other side. chodweaver, ShiteRider, vulgalour and 22 others 25

SambaS Posted September 5, 2016 Author Posted September 5, 2016 The only update I can give having just returned to the UK from Bosnia is this photo. I did stop off at Stu's on the way home but it was the camper that recieved some attention. Squire_Dawson, M'coli, Dick Cheeseburger and 11 others 14

Simcat Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 The LE is in the dry awaiting further attention... In the meantime some progress has been made on the red GL, with the near side structure now being sorted. The sill appeared to be intact, but was paper thin for the most part. Once off the inner sill largely crumbled along with the floor pan lip. A lot of fabrication needed, but now all solid ready for new outer sill. vulgalour, dieselassist, Dick Cheeseburger and 11 others 14
Simcat Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Hoping to make some progress on the red car over the next few weeks. Hmm... more crusty rustiness around the rear panel, especially in the seams. Okay, no other option, it's got to come off... Check stocks... yes we have new genuine... Offered up to check fitment - looking good! Burnside, Dick Cheeseburger, Angrydicky and 19 others 22
Dick Cheeseburger Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 More! And what's the latest with SambaS blue Alpine?
Simcat Posted September 9, 2017 Posted September 9, 2017 More! And what's the latest with SambaS blue Alpine? No further progress at the moment.... though will be collecting something rather special for the car at the end of the month - watch this space! SambaS, Burnside and Dick Cheeseburger 3

Simcat Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 The 'something special' has arrived. How's this for craziness - genuine factory original seat cloth..... fresh from Roby in France who, incredibly, still stock these materials some 30 years later. On comparison it just shows how truly awful the interior of this car is... Still a lot more to do but this must be the luckiest Alpine alive! Cleon-Fonte, Angrydicky, vulgalour and 29 others 32
Mr_Bo11ox Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 Holy moly! If there's any left over after, I'll buy it and make it into a jumper mat_the_cat, Dick Cheeseburger, oldcars and 4 others 7

Simcat Posted November 15, 2017 Posted November 15, 2017 I've got the brightness turned down on my phone as I'm in bed, I thought it was a roll of j cloth at first...Haha - 'J-cloth' is exactly what we call this material in the club! Chrysler/Talbot called it 'Chequer'. There were about 10 different colours, all biodegradable after 3 years in sunlight... uk_senator, somewhatfoolish, beko1987 and 2 others 5

dollywobbler Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Good to see you at the NEC. Was very pleased to hear about this development. Do you know if they stock other 1970s French car trim, particularly Citroen?
oldcars Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Holy moly! If there's any left over after, I'll buy it and make it into a three piece suit.FIFY
Simcat Posted November 16, 2017 Posted November 16, 2017 Good to see you at the NEC. Was very pleased to hear about this development. Do you know if they stock other 1970s French car trim, particularly Citroen? Yes good to see you too and thanks for your appreciation of our stand! This is the Citroen page (they also list Peugeot and Renault) Roby allocate a 4 digit reference number for each material type, if you have that (sometimes shown in the main dealer paint and trim folders) or maybe the name that would be helpful (preferably the French name if different) otherwise send a sample I guess. To simplify things I used a French friend to take samples to their shop in Paris and pay on my behalf, I then later met up with him at a show in France to collect the cloth. The material roll is plenty wide enough for the width of the car, so you just need the front to back measurement. http://www.roby-collection.fr/9-tissus-citroen Just because the sample doesn't appear on the website doesn't always mean they don't have it from my experience, as none of the Simca/Chrysler/Talbot samples appear. I got 2 out of the 3 samples I submitted - I guess it's likely pot luck if they still have stock. Pretty amazing though its still 'on the shelf'! barrett Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Hey Simcat, how much do you reckon you'd need to do one front seat?
