Recommended Posts

Always liked the look of these, and thinking about getting one for the upcoming winter months. Not really, just fancied a change.

Has to be Auto just in case the wife wants to drive it.

Any thing to look for, be aware of, but looking sub grand prices.

Cheers

Bugger read it is a mk1 CRX then it clicked.... I know nothing about the CRV, which is useful

Very good, quite thirsty for a 2.0 but goes well, will never break down and has a small amount of off-road ability.  The rear wheels kick in automatically when needed so there's no manual control but it seems to work quite well.

My CRV is a champ. 170000 miles and drives like it just left the showroom. Only real thing to check is the heater blower works, they like to eat resistors otherwise, happy days.

Oh mines a mk2, but my sisters mk1 was everything mine is until her son rolled it last week. Held up very well. Verdict. Recommended!

Friend of mine has an early one. Drove it a few times. She is very happy with it, absolutely reliable and has been a great car since he ownes it. Definately a recommendation from her.

Ha, that's what I did! Love old CRX's.

And likewise other than a ladyfriend of mine had one for years and nothing much seemed to go wrong with it, her only complaint was that is wasn't too economical.

Have a 2007, 2.2 diesel, manual. so nothing like what your looking at :) but it's the best car I've ever had. Genuine parts can be expensive (like all main stealers) and it likes a drink knocking about round town! did 60MPG on a 330 mile round trip to london. very good in the snow if you like that type of thing..

Judging from the replies its a girls car so your wife will be happy to drive you home from the pub ... buy it  8)

Am I right in thinking that these have a column shift for the autobox?

If so you must buy one immediately just so you can sit at a red light nonchalantly chewing gum and talking into your 'cop' radio before flipping the shifter over to D and pulling away like any self respecting American PI from the golden age of television.

Back in the real world my Brother had an R reg CRV automatic, bought for a grand 2 years ago in preparation for another arctic winter that never actually arrived it was amazingly grippy in the little bad weather we had and proved pretty faultless over the 7 months he had it, he sold it for 600 in the middle of summer and bought an Astra convertible (Yes I know, I did tell him but he wouldn't listen)

I had a mk1 crv which I bought for the impending OMGSNOWKAOS that never came a few years back. The plan was to sell it in the spring but I ended up liking it and keeping it for three years. Mine was the ES model so had leather and toys and amazingly everything worked. All it ever needed was a couple of front springs (we'll blame the state of edinburghs roads for that), a pair of rear brake pipes and consumables. I would have another, the only reason I sold it was the mpg was never great and I moved to a job with a 60 mile a day commute.

The four wheel drive system is based around a viscous coupling so most of the time it's only the front wheels being driven, good news for tyre wear and mpg*. I had a spare set of wheels with proper winter tyres on so when the snowkaos didn't happen, I went looking for it up in the hills. I was mighty impressed with the way it hustled along the back roads at 50+ on several inches of snow, most impressive was the control I had when I hit the anchors - it took quite an effort to lock the wheels.

And there's a picnic table in the boot :)

Dual pump system on the crv . no shitty vicious coupling here. Good system but does need a fluid change /flush every now and again
