These are great, the good old days. Loving the Reliant MK1 Robin and a Regal 24 saloon  :-D

The white Fiat going past Crawleys Garage looks like a 128. My folks had one from new, it was yellow.

Cracking post Triggs. Shitswich certainly has changed over the years

Clearly amazing pics, did I spot a Dodge/Commer TV license detector van amongst that? Did they actually work, or was it just a couple of tax payer funded lackeys driving around eating jam sarneys? Also, if they turned up at your house demanding entry, you could quite legitimately tell them to piss off, surely?

I can't explain why but this photo really captures a lost world.

No VAG cars or satellite dishes?

^^and a lack of over extended middle class smugness. I can't sense Coldplay, humous or spoilt brats called Jake.

The seventies was indeed another world. I was there.

^^^^ Yep, nowadays that Cortina would be an X5 on a private plate, and the Wolsley owner….Christ I can't even envisage the equivalent of Wolsleyman in 2014.

In fact, every single car in that photo is British built (assuming the Fiesta is a Dagenham one).

Really enjoyed those :-D .  The black and maroon 2cv (photo28) is currently on SORN, last taxed 2008. Most of the others that I checked were untaxed or had kicked the bucket more than 17 years ago except for the Herald soft top which made it to 2001.

Regarding the colourful cars, go back to the 1950's (which I remember) and most cars were black or patched up with red oxide paint.  Just a few were available in pastel shades - grey, pale green, pale blue or beige.  The first coloured car I can remember having a ride in was an oval window  VW Beetle in a fetching shade of blue.

There's a great shot of a dark blue Maxi whirring through town. I have lightened the pic and can tell you all that UDX250K was a 1972 Maxi 1500 (facelift rod change) that lasted until 1989 - a fair life span.

I'd like a Maxi.

Have a good look at the fence ! I think it's a bit like granny's broom.

Lovely photos Trigger, but all those cars get in the way.

I used to live just down the road from it - it's still got some 'Don't Pay The Poll Tax' graffiti on the other side!

Enjoyed those, many thanks for taking the time to post.

Great cars, heart warming scenes, not a hi vis in sight.

My head looked like that inside, then, too....

And yes, this is a colour photo!

Is there still someone, who doesn't believe, that everything was nicer and better back then?

We still use part of that very sign (to the left of the Fiesta) at work to prop a gate open with.  I spent many a time swapping cars over in that reserved space.
