Mechanical stuff should be fairly good, though brakes maybe pants unless used well.

The motors are sound and torquey rather than revy.

Rust will be the killer

My last comment is that if you find a good source of parts then I am interested in a cheap B6 motor to drop into the Pride.

Not really a constructive comment but my Mum had an E-reg one back in the day in a rather fetching metalic blue with blue interior plastics and blue seats which looked to be made from beach towel material. Was a 1.5 auto and slow as anything but always had a bit of a soft spot for it. Very well equipped though for what it was having leccy windows, sunroof roof, mirrors and central locking - quite unusual on a car of that size in the 80s.

Had it for 5 years or so and I don't recall anything going wrong with it except the alternator failing the day before it was traded in for a Rover 214SLI - garage still took it at the agreed price despite having to come and collect it with a trailer so fair play to them.

I had a 1.3 E-reg a few years back.  Quite nippy up to about 40mph then the acceleration tailed right off.  Nice enough though.  I liked the light around the lock on the driver's door.

Oh yes, I remember that  - very clever. Never seen it since, I suppose with remote locking these days you don't really need it.

Grandma_DS20 had one back in the day, and loved it. It was a 1.5 and had as many toys as Father_DS20's 740GLE - mighty impressive for a hatchback. It was nippy at lower speeds, declared to be quite good to drive (but bear in mind its predecessor was a B-reg Astra), and was mega-reliable. The weak point was in its resistance to corrosion.

I had one of these too and it was GREAT, could have done with power steering though. BUY THIS ONE

That's a run out model Javelin so it will have Pas as standard. The rot that kills these normally festers at the rear of the car ...namely the back end of the sills, the inner sill /floor area rots out before any outer rot is visible, and the spring turrets have to be carefully examined too. Mechanically their pretty bomb proof but the radiators disintegrate with age and if it's on it's original ht leads they'll be ready for changing.

When I was a kid, my next door neighbor had one. Her house smelled like death and burnt cabbage, her garden was an overgrown jungle of brambles and the car was covered in moss all the time. Still I can't remember it ever going wrong.

I had one of those little Mazdas.

Bought an '89 5door lx in dark metallic blue in 1995.

My first real modern car, loved it.

Made a real change from the rotten, chicken wire and filler, one wheel in the breakers cars that I had before it.

Ran it for several years, needed a replacement an alternator, and some rear shocks, but was always reliable.

Passed it onto my old man when I bought a MK11 Golf Gti.

He ran it for a few more years,my sister even learned how to drive in it.

It eventually was sold, and ended it's days on a housing estate,

where it got stolen and burnt out.Still makes me sad thats how it's life ended.

Just looked online and your old one is on the road. I thought it would have bought it after the chap bought it of Binhoker and lobbed it on Ebay with no T&T etc and looking sorry for itself.
