1988 Saab 900 Turbo 5 door *now with moar photos!!

Oh God, I can't believe I'm actually doing this!

1988 900 Turbo 8 valve 5 door. I always wanted a C900 Turbo, and when I saw this for sale in June 2013 I couldn't resist it.

I've had to do a few bits to it but its been a great old thing to charge around in, and I was quite unprepared for the remarkable road holding. Since I sorted out my XM it's barely moved and it deserves more tlc than I'm likely to provide any time soon. It's a bit ratty in places but has been completely reliable despite at times being pressed into service for my tortuous commute and the occassional highspeed motorway journey. I haven't used it for almost a month but I know if I go out it'll start first turn and be off without issue; you could drive off anywhere in this old thing and be reasonably assured of getting to your destination!

It has test until Feb and no real pressing issues. I have done the headgasket starter motor and clutch in the last 12 months and various other bits. Rusty in places but solid underneath and strangely it is pristine in the usual problem areas like the driveshaft tunnels and front chassis rails. The inside of the doors are rusty of course and no headlining because I ripped it out in a rage. £550?

They're great old cars, and well worth spending a bit one fixing it up. Price is BARG, GLWTS. :)

I'm sorely interested in this, awesome bargaintastic car but just the wrong time right now. If you still have it in December I may chew your arm off!

I'll take some more photographs on Saturday.

I would consider a swap ideally something large (suitable for extreme lankiness) and pre 1990.

FOAD, tell me about this Carlton of which you speak :)

Thanks Richard, alas I'm oot as regards FOAD's Carlton, had it been a Mk 1 might have been tempted...

I'm extremely interested in this.  I've fancied one of these for a long time.

I've just checked the insurance situation and my current policy - Swiftcover - won't cover it (presumably too old) so I'll have to make some further enquiries with specialist insurers in the morning before I can get too excited.

Any chance of a few more pictures?

Cheers.

Alas Saturday will be the first opportunity for me to take photographs in daylight.

It has cloth seats and radio cassette ;)

Nice looking C900 you've got there. I'll mention it within our Saab group in case any members are interested.

Does it have leather seats?

It doesn't! Its Vegan Friendly! Put it on Retro Rides.

Roof lining replacement isn't as bad on the hatchback 99 and 900 as you can manoeuvre it out through the back once you get it detached.

Wheel arch repair sections, along with door bottoms and drive shaft tunnel repair sections are all available still, so if the person who buys this decides to tidy it up some more, the bits can be had (not saying they're all needed on this one, just that they're common rust areas).

The car actually comes with a roll of new headlining material, however unfortunately the fibreboard backing fell to bits so the lucky new owner would have to source a good secondhand one which shouldn't be difficult.

The driveshaft tunnels are good incidentally...

It also has a load of history (including evidence of a previous gearbox rebuild) and some spares including rare optional rear headrests.

Any chance of some pictures of the door bottoms, and the inner panel of the bonnet.

Also is the headlining "cassette" still there, is it just missing the fabric?

Very doubtful, but does the air con still work?

Cheers

I'll struggle on the photos bcause I'll not be back until it's dark again but you won't be surprised to know that the air con doesn't work. The drivers door bottom has been repaired and isn't at all bad whereas the other three are rusty and have some holes through the inner. The bonnet is the best one I've seen; the inner is really good. It needs a new headlining 'cassette'.

Nobody bought this yet? The Carlton is still available to swap, I'll also throw in a Lancia Beta Coupe for the saab!

Looking forward to the pez shot! Quite jealous here, those 8v'ves have a nice effortless feel to the power delivery and have nice long striding top gear, great long distance cruisers.

At one point I had a flat Front 2 door with those mechanicals which was quite a rare beast even at the time, sadly rot and me ploughing through a dry stone wall finished it off!

Well, one things for sure. Now this has sold the Shaguar is about to disgrace itself somehow as I had been eyeing this up as its replacement a while ago when I thought it was about to rattle itself to death.

Leg 2. No train shot as it's the actually the same train. I disembarked thinking I had to change but in fact the train split in half, sending the last four coaches back to Coventry. Still, I got this photo of the new New St Station; will it ever be finished?

Is the New Street signal box still there?

I can never understand Birmingham. They built a load of crazy modern brutalist buildings in the 60's and pulled them all down in the 90's and 00's as they were no longer fashionable and deemed as eyesores and replaced them all with crazy modern alternative buidings that will also be eyesores in another 20yrs and will all need to be pulled down again. Why not just build a nice building in the first place that you can use forever?
