I'd be much more interested in how it goes over speed bumps.

They love speed bumps! I used to jump over them at 40-50 in the 1.4 and it was smoother doing it than the xm. Current ones not as good but it has suspension issues admittedly, still do over 30 though just to stick it to the man!

Central locking is IR, so has to be pointed at the receiver by the rear view mirror.

Is that the same remote system used by the 405s?

Tis tosh, then.

Pick the rubber out of the key to reveal the button and buy 2x CR2025 \ CR2032s from Poundland. Problem solved.

Alternatively, use the key itself.

Why? What did he not like?

He said it was too slow. He was used to a V70R.

ZX inner wings rot.

Rear subframe bushes wear leading to speed bump "Clonk"

Rear arm bearings wear and then ruin the rear beam, only cure is a replacement beam.

Dash lightbulbs fail for fun. Replace with LED ones.

Otherwise they are good and quire reliable cars. Ive had 3 and lost two to rot one to a bolloxed engine possibly caused by running it on things that I really shouldnt have.

Oh yeah.... The central locking. Yeah that went wrong too, backing up the old man's assertions that the more "extras" you got on a car the more there was to go wrong.

But this is a man who thinks a fourth wheel on a Morgan is an unnecessary extravagance...

Weird. I find the Charade being too fast.

There is constantly some dickhead ahead of me in his newfangled turbo something with oodles of PS holding everything up.

Are you peoples talking about the actual central locking to fail, or just the remote control for it?

Does using the key in the driver's door lock not operate the central locking, like it does on the Piggo?

'Fast' is not a word synonymous with that Charade. Maybe if it had a half decent gearbox with more than two ratios.

Boredom is the only real problem with a ZX, still I hope to get one of mind back next week and look forward to see if it can be saved.

It's too fast for most of the gout-ridden telly watchers cluttering today's roads, who can't even keep up with a bloody farm tractor from a traffic light.

I think I'll give up driving altogether pretty soon. It just doesn't work the way it's commonly done nowadays.

I deffo say go for the Xsara, I miss mine and as in my previous posts this is the only car I have kept for over 5 years and had to fit 2 lots of brake pads and full exhausts.

It is economical in 1.4 form, smooth over speed bumps even though it has conventional suspension, its not as big as a 405 in any way, my neighbor's 405 was head and shoulders over mine.

Watch out for head gaskets on the later ones and the c3, I was in the Citroen dealers and there was a load of 03 & 04 plates going for scrap for that problem, the fools part exed them for another Citroen as it was cheeper than getting a new engine ?????

Failing that buy me laddos Renault Megane, just as lovely, more economical and cheeper to insure? 1.6cc and the heaters in Renaults cook you nicely. win win. I got one after my Xsara too.

Is that Renner Methane bader spec?

I just don't like Xsaras. They aren't in the same price range, either.

Why don't you go and test drive one at your local back street garage, then go home and listen to some Leonard Cohen to cheer yourself up.

You can get auto sMeganes, but the autos are made of cheese.

If you can get over your bizarre dislike of the 306, I'd get one of those.

The good old ZX is getting rare now, cant remember the last time I saw one on the road that wasnt my old one in the village where I sold it!

Slam dunk.

Although man of junk appears to have seen it - he used the interior shots a few posts back.

I'm sure that would look decent after a buff and Bert Kaempfert sesh.

Worth a look, given its proximity and price. There aren't too many automatic diesel ZXs knocking about.

I know, it's on my watchlist.

It's in fact the reason I inquired about them here in the first place.

JFDI.

WCPGW?

GLWTP.

Can't see any giffer marks on the bumper corners, nor any dents, tyres look like they have some tread too.

Has it got mot? I'm sure an autobox fluid change isn't hard, I'll have a look at my haynes in a sec for you
