stick on heater element or other ideas

Not car related but of the same ilk. I have quite a tall screen on the front of the bike that you have to look through. I wont cut it down as I use it in all weathers. It keeps misting up and can be a pain in the arse in the rain. For the rain side of things I am going to try and find a headlight wiper moter and blade to clear my field of vision but it doesn't help with the misting. Looking all over and I cant find any stick on heater elements. Do any of you fine people know where I can obtain one? Thanks

Have you tried using rain x on it? A simpler solution would be to run a bit of heater hose from a 12v PC fan from somewhere dry around the engine, a mate did it on an early pan that was fitted with the biggest screen you have ever seen, worked pretty well by all accounts.

I wanted to fit a HRW to the van; I found a few old kits on eBay but quite aside from whether they would still stick or not, they were all way too long. The only solution I could find was (again) over in the US:

Basically you select a kit of the appropriate height, stick the heated strips on, then a pair of bus bars, then trim the heated strips to suit.

Works well, but I was lucky in that I found a kit where the length was such that it could be run straight from 12 volts - if it was much shorter it would require their modulator kit (or something similar) to reduce the power dissipated by the strips. Which would put the price up and give extra complexity that you really don't want on a bike.

Have been having a chat with a friend today regarding this. He suggested a pc fan from engine/manifold area. Any more info jazoli? Yes,tried rain x but in town I don't get enough speed up for wind to blow rain off. Mat,I didn't realise if I trimmed elements down I would need to modify current so thanks for that! Could have got interesting.

Did people just put up with this problem before?  I wonder if there's a simple old solution out there that someone knows that doesn't involve having to put heater elements and whatnot in.

I think most folk don't ride in all weathers with a touring screen fitted vulg! I had it as nothing worse Than wet knackers. And as I wear glasses they steam up so lift visor then get soaked with rain! There probably is a very simple solution I just haven't found yet.

I can't remember exactly, he just used a 12V fan to blow warm air from the engine to the base of the screen, using a bit of heater or vacuum cleaner hose with the flared attachment on the end, I don't remember how it was routed but it wouldn't be too difficult to replicate depending on the bike I'd wager, it was many moons ago

I think ill have a crack at that. Little pc fan wired to switch. Mounted with a small box round manifold and a garden hose to the screen.

I tried some anti mist one one screen I had a few years ago and it seemed to send the screen cloudy so never bother since!

If you want I have 3 pc fans you can have for the price of the postage. All new unused.

That's probably the best (i.e. simplest) idea - even unheated moving air will help.

assuming this is on a c90 bub,i used mr sheen on mine :-) also,the screen is set up wrong if you have to look through it,not safe at all.

I admire you bub - I rode through two winters on a CB 125 and GSX 550 - never again. I was lucky - I only came off once.

I thought your thread was a wind up at first - i thought you were going to suggest possible locations for an ashtray next! Rain x should work, as will going faster - the airflow will displace the water!

Drill small hole in exhaust, attach T piece, attach hose pipe, route back to front of bike, attach with multiple cable ties.

Voilar - hot air, up you screen!

That will be a quid.

In ancient times a smearing of washing up liquid would provide a fairly hopeless solution.

When I had my GoldWing (yes, I admit to having a two wheeled car - it was one among ten bikes I had at the same time - I loved it...sometimes) I used rainX on the inside of the screen and it worked well. Also used a cut spud liberally wiped all over it and then polished when dry, and that worked okay also! Eventually fitted a screen demister system from the US that used engine heat (of which there was loads). I always thought it was strange that the screen was left to its own devices when the driver/rider was soooooo well warmed by heated seats/grips/armrests and heaters for your feet!

Not on the c90 Dan. Currently riding a piaggio vespa liberty 125. Thanks for admiration bren,I just think its shear stupidity putting myself through this now as this will be the 11th year I have done this. Already got a small amplifier with fm radio and aux in socket with waterproof speakers fitted,12v charging socket etc. Just got to think about fabbing up a demister and wiper for screen. Barefoot thanks for idea but I think hot exhaust gas and the noise will be a bit too much!
